I did manage to get last week's game done btw, but I'm waiting for my friend to be able to write a song with it. The friend I collabed with needs more time, and I don't want to rush her.
It’s coming up on two months since I started these 1GAW projects! It means the world that I’ve had so many friends so interested in the games I’ve been making, and it’s been so much fun creating these little projects. Doing this through January was an amazing experience and I ended up getting 3 whole games done (2 of which were, surprisingly, actually good!). But going through February though, severe burnout set in and I was only able to finish one game that wasn’t as good. With my current schedule, each game becomes a mad scramble to get something to exist instead of making something and learning from it. No break, no time to process it, and no time to focus on other things. That’s not why I wanna make games this year. I’m working up to a really cool game idea I want you to actually be able to play, and making things just to make things isn’t gonna get me there. So if I’m gonna continue and see this through, I have to give myself more time between games.
Outside of game devving, I’d like to focus on lots of life I’ve been neglecting. I haven’t gotten to spend much time with my friends or even my partner lately. I’ve also been trying to take care of myself more and feel more confident in me. Even within game devving, I’m learning there’s other things I wanna focus on besides just making games. I wanna study art more and refine the style of my graphics. I’ve been developing really cool tools that help me dev that I haven’t gotten to tinker with lately, and I’d like to tinker with them. I wanna change my persona from being an eyeball to something else, preferably more cutesy and furry. I like the slightly gothic vibe of the eyeball, but overall it doesn’t feel like me at all. (Also how do I emote with it??)
Overall, the past two months have been amazing even with the burnout. The biggest things I’ve learned by far over in that time are the importance of time management and what actually goes into making a game start-to-finish. March starts my first 1GAM project, and I’m extra excited to show you what I’ve been learning. Thank you, dearly, to all the friends who’ve been interested in my games so far. Hopefully I can create even better things for you. >:)
