Eight Experts on What You’re Not Being Told about the War in Iran | The Walrus The questions that aren’t making it into the battlefield dispatches

My contribution to @thewalrus.ca
on what the coverage of #IranWar is missing:

External war does not automatically produce democratic transition. It can strengthen the very security institutions that suppressed the #WomanLifeFreedom movement.

Hootsuite CEO says ICE contract will stand as long as agency honours terms and conditions ‘We did nothing wrong here,’ head of Vancouver social media company said in internal call with employees

There is not a lot Canadians can do about ICE, but we can ask Parliament to investigate Canadian companies doing business with them, like Hootsuite. Call or email your MP - or contact the INDU House committee MPs. Will post link below. www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art...

The flu is everywhere. So why aren’t Canadians getting vaccinated for viral illnesses? Despite overwhelming research showing that flu vaccines keep people out of hospital, fewer Canadians are getting vaccinated. Trust isn’t the only factor keeping people from getting the jab.

Wonderful news, @benking01.bsky.social! You're an inspiration. ♥️ I completely understand the motivation to do whatever it takes to pick up where you left off, prior to contracting COVID and it's awful aftermath. Here's to an energetic and fulfilling 2026. 💫

Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping. Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.

This is what I've been sharing with folks who come to me privately & ask me to "do something" about the Alberta government. I respond to them and say "it needs to be your voice, not mine". I'm already out there doing all of @jaredwesley.ca's 10 points. Be brave, do just 2 steps for your own future.

Yes, Bishop! 👏🏾 In 2016, my church, St. Stephen's Anglican, sponsored one family's relocation to Calgary from Syria with two other churches. It took three (3) churches to help one (1) family. Faith communities do not have the volunteer capacity or financial capacity to do the work of the government.

Smith: The 1930s were a glorious time for education and healthcare in Alberta. Let's return to that.

This isn't a conservative vision.

It's radical and retrogressive.

In 2,000 children followed from Grades 1–9, we find that #LearningDifficulties co-occur strongly with each other, but only weakly with #ADHD.
While ADHD affects reading comprehension over time, it does not drive reading fluency or arithmetic.

I *so* wish that the Visible Health arm band monitor was available in Canada! I use my Garmin to help me monitor my heart rate and HRV daily, but that cannot substitute for the data integration and feedback you have, especially in real time. Fabulous though, to follow your progress! Gives me hope. 🤩

...introducing Direct Motions Without Notice, but no further information has been provided.

*** This is a tactic often used to force through unpopular motions, as it circumvents first hearing at General Committee and prevents deputations from the public. ***
