Tombs of Telleran - Creating Sticky Combat Hello everyone and belated happy new year! During the holidays I’ve been experimenting with combat stickiness in Tombs of Telleran. “Combat stickiness,” you ask? Let me show you what I mean with an ex...

I thought a bit about how to design sticky combat in grid based roguelikes. In the end I decided leverage a stamina system to make chasing and running more mechanically interesting. I'm pretty happy with it!

Juicing your game is fun! I added animated knock back effects to Tombs of Telleran. What do you think?

Iterated on the combat log for #tombsoftelleran this week. It now shows all the actions actors have taken and what effects they had in a menu you can show/hide. I'm pretty happy with it!

Creating Pixel Art Isometric Walls for Godot Hello everyone! For the longest time I have thought about adding visual isometric walls to Tombs of Telleran. But since they don’t impact gameplay, I kept postponing it. But no longer! During the holi...

I finally added isometric walls to Tombs of Telleran! Godot had some quirks but I'm happy with the results. Read about how I did it in the blog post below!

What are your thoughts on the Attack of Opportunity mechanic? It's such a simple way to make melee combat sticky but feels a tad uninspired entering 2026.

Instead of punishing leaving combat, perhaps we could reward staying engaged? Thoughts?

Tombs of Telleran Christmas 2025 Update Hello everyone! I hope you are all enjoying Christmas times. We got lucky with some snow just before Christmas. Everything is crisp, cold and calm. The past autumn has been very busy. Job hunting, tra...

Merry Christmas everyone!

What an autumn. Job hunting. Flat hunt. Travelling.
Fortunately, in the cold and quite of winter, things are calm again. So I implemented a utility based AI in Tombs of Telleran which makes combat encounters much more interesting.

Happy holidays! 🎄

Tombs of Telleran - One Year Retrospective About a year ago I started development of the roguelike Tombs of Telleran. With a software engineering background with literally zero experience with Godot, what could possibly go wrong? What I set ou...

Wow. A full year of developing Tombs of Telleran. I'm surprised how far I've gotten, and equally surprised how much there is still to do. Are you also working on a marathon project? Any learnings you would like to share?

Recalling Language - A Roguelike Item Identification System Hello there! Today I want to share my first design for an identification system and for magic scrolls in Tombs of Telleran. It aims to provide you as a player with enough information to prevent random...

What's your favourite item identification system in roguelikes? I like the one in Golden Krone Hotel and have iterated on it for Tombs of Telleran, where identifying items means recalling your lost language. Check it out in the blog post!

Adding a better corruption system and Factions to Tombs of Telleran Hello everyone! I hope spring has been treating you well. Personally, In Real Life Things have kept me very busy, but I have had some time to iterate on the corruption mechanic of Tombs of Telleran an...

Do you like the corruption mechanic in ADOM? No? What if **you** controlled area corruption? What if an area's corruption affected its content? And what if all this tied into a faction system? Check out how corruption works in Tombs of Telleran!

Dungeon Generation using Binary Space Partitioning in Godot C# for Traditional Roguelikes As we all know, you can’t spell ‘roguelike’ without ‘procedural generation’ (try it). And what could be more iconic in procedurally generated content than dungeon layouts? In this article I want to sh...

Alongside the code I also wrote an explanation with pretty pictures on how it works which is available on my dev blog. Let me know if you have questions or comments!

Are you interested in procedurally generated dungeons? Godot? Then I have some great news! I just released an open source Godot project containing the dungeon generation algorithm used in Tombs of Telleran. Check it out in the GitHub link!

Breathing Life into Tombs of Telleran's Resource Management Systems At the heart of roguelikes lies interesting decision making and tactical gameplay. Every turn should present meaningful choices that impact both immediate survival and long-term success. In designing ...

I just finished the initial design for the resource system in my roguelike Tombs of Telleran! To win you will need to balance your spiritual purity against the corrupting (but empowering) influence of the tombs. Read more about their design in this new blog post

Randomness in Game Design: How Uncertainty Can Improve Gameplay If you have ever played a game with random numbers you have probably encountered situations of frustration where the glorious polyhedron in the sky did not favour you. It simply sucks to miss multiple...

Randomness in games can be both fun and frustrating, but I firmly believe it adds to the gameplay experience. In the linked post I explore what makes randomness in games work and how I'm applying these lessons in Tombs of Telleran.

What are your thoughts on randomness in games?

I'd encourage you to build a roguelike! It's great fun, and surprisingly complex. Or perhaps something more puzzle like akin to Into the Breach if that's your forte

Hello bluesky, cool to be here! I recently started developing a traditional roguelike on my spare time and got convinced by a friend to start sharing the progress on the cool new social media platform.

Are you also into roguelikes or game dev? Let's talk!
