As usual, every Republican tantrum about Democratic gerrymandering that doesn't end with "...and that's why I support a national ban on gerrymandering" is to be regarded with contempt and ignored.
I mean I have personally wondered what his deal is. Is it a physical disability (in which case it doesn't seem to be stopping him from his oyster farming hobby)? Is it a mental disability (in which case is it prudent to put him in the Senate)?

The question we have is: is there a greater than average risk that a man who had a Nazi tattoo for many years harbors Nazi-like beliefs?

I'm not certain that Platner is a Nazi. It also doesn't matter if he's not. The tattoo makes him unsuitable for the United States Senate because of the importance of denormalizing and stigmatizing Nazi dogwhistles and symbology.

Among other things this means that the screaming about Platner and his tattoo is not going to stop even if he is elected to office and even if he wields power responsibly. Establishing a clear norm against Nazism means condemning him continually until he leaves political life.
"The guy with the Nazi tattoo isn't that bad - just listen to what he has to say on my podcast!" is a fairly succinct expression of how we got to this catastrophic moment in the first place.
Again, there's a whiff of Trump in Platner's candidacy. Once again, supporters of an obviously unsuitable candidate demand we take him seriously instead of saying "no, not him" and moving on.

Platner was also using the f-slur for gay men in 2018 at the age of 33. Not 2008 or 1998 or 1988. 2018! Why would we trust this man with power?

The problem with Platner isn't just the concern that he's a Nazi. It's also that electing him to high office would be a devastating blow to the effort to denormalize and stigmatize Nazi dogwhistles and symbology. That's what we're up against here.
