These humble monks, through the act of walking, day in and day out, have taught millions of people how to show up for our world when it needs us more than ever. What a joy to witness and follow in some of their final footsteps on this journey and to see how many others sought to do the same.
The snow is so thoroughly frozen you can now go sledding without a sled. β¦And without any friction to slow you down.
From Mayor Bowser's newsletter tonight: "Where we still have problem areas near bus stops, the DC National Guard is also going to help clear pathways for pedestrians to get to and from the buses."
Can confirm
My trip to the bank yesterday morning turned into an inadvertent tour of bus "berms." If we don't have a plan in place for clearing bus stops, bus riders in our region may face severe limits on their ability to get around for not just days but *weeks* to come.

Wishing everyone a bit of peace and pause in the soft quiet of a snowy morning.
I admit I didnβt expect the shelves to be this empty 48 hours out.
Weβre trying to raise $12,000 by December 31 and, as of about 5 minutes ago, weβre $1,203 shy of the goal. Individual gifts provide critical support esp for the GGWash blog and political work. If youβre so moved, please make a gift to help us get there: secure.everyaction.com/0Euw5k-A8kan... π π
The year-end GGWash fundraising campaign is a *big* team effort. But I lead on the last handful of emails that go out during our winter break. And that means roping in some pinch-hitting proofreaders: my parents. Grateful for Momβs ruthless interrogation of whether any given comma is truly needed. π
Did we unexpectedly have to carve out a few minutes in todayβs @ggwash.org staff meeting so we could all pull out our phones and check our Metro Rewinds? Yes, yes we did.
Crosstown @wmata.com bus routes ftw! They provide such critical connectivity. The H4 was my top route last year, and its newest incarnation the C61 kept me going this year.
Sidebar: Who is responsible for this yearβs truly unhinged graphics? And thank you to whoever signed off on them. π
This gives me real hope that we are in the midst of a generational shift with several more decades ahead of us during which this generation will be working to fix a problem that was decades in the making.
Looking across not just elected offices but also philanthropy, journalism, think tanks, pro-housing nonprofits all over the country β disproportionately, I see millennials in decision-making roles steering energy and resources toward housing.
The reason our housing shortage is now seen as a crisis is not just bc of data β the data looked bad for years before this became a national dialogue. Itβs also bc millennials, entering middle age feeling the effects of societyβs failures, are now in positions of power & shaping that dialogue.
This Thanksgiving, Iβm grateful to live in a place where neighbors care so much about each other.
Cracks me up that the participant who had seven drinks with Fireball may have been doing so while on the clock with OCME. Presumably they were allowed to cancel any afternoon meetings. π
I knew @wmata.com would have endless good TikTok content opportunities if they ever leaned into it β and Iβm so glad they did lean into it β but, digital media team, do you really have to keep making me *cry* with the heartwarming stories?
Sometimes, policy & regulatory changes prompt mixed reactions.
But when it comes to the DC streatery reforms β which are set to kill off almost every streatery in in the District β pretty much everyone except DDOT is on the same page: This is bad!

If youβve been following the astronomical rate of CaBi ridership growth for the last 44 months, you know what a staggering change in rider behavior this is.
Mapped out day-by-day, the slowed rate of growth started with new CaBi price increasesβ¦ and then with the federal βtakeoverβ of MPD, that slowed growth turned into 14 straight days of year-over-year ridership decline.
