"I shot him! Now shoot me."
George Zinn, the Utah political gadfly who, in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s shooting death last summer, told police falsely that he had fired the fatal bullet, was sent to prison today — and he may be there for up to 15 years.

When Robert Redford died in September, his family didn't have a public memorial service. So Friday night's tribute Redford's vision, in a fundraiser for his Sundance Institute, was the closest thing we've had to a wake. #Sundance2026

The 2026 congressional midterms will be of consequence for the Trump administration. But first, Utah Democrats will knife and claw and suffer through what could be a messy primary in Utah’s new 1st District — that is, if the new map holds.

As the Legislature looks to reshape the judiciary, remember Utah courts are not full of liberal, activist judges who somehow snuck under the GOP radar.
For decades, judges in Utah have been nominated by a Republican governor and approved by Republican lawmakers.

A Utah surgeon’s victory in a vaccine fraud case has encouraged other “medical freedom” advocates to consider seeking leniency for similar charges. “This undermines every layer of the system that protects us from infectious disease,” an expert said.
NEW: A Utah plastic surgeon was on trial for falsifying COVID-19 vaccine cards. Then Pam Bondi stepped in.
Bondi’s dismissal of the case signals the increasing clout of “medical freedom” activists and vaccine skeptics under the leadership of RFK Jr.

The Salt Lake Tribune, which went from for-profit to non-profit 6 years ago, is about to drop its paywall. "The Tribune cannot afford to limit who has access to independent and trusted news."
Meanwhile, it just launched a new newspaper in southern Utah.

The congressional boundary map submitted by Republican lawmakers “does not comply with Utah law,” Judge Dianna Gibson wrote in her ruling.

A Utah judge rejected new congressional boundaries proposed by Republican lawmakers, instead choosing a map that will create a heavily Democratic-leaning district in Salt Lake County.

‘OWNED BY ODD FELLOWS’: Pink graffiti at Salt Lake’s federal courthouse is ‘really odd,’ fellow says
www.sltrib.com/news/politic...
When I first saw the pink spray paint at Salt Lake City's federal courthouse early Thursday morning, I definitely had some thoughts about what it may be in regard to.
A Trump protest? Rage at a recent federal court decision?
Likely, nope.
Ben McAdams, the last Democrat to hold a congressional seat in Utah, will run again in 2026 — in a district still to be determined.

A bomb squad officer leaves the scene at Utah State University shortly after a small explosion was heard on campus.
Police later said the suspicious package they responded to — and exploded — was not a bomb.
Update on victims in LDS Michigan meetinghouse attack

Law enforcement officials fear additional victims may have been trapped inside the burning church, according to the Detroit Free Press.
“We’re still in shock,” Becca Wilson Jones, a Latter-day Saint who attends church in neighboring Flint, told The Tribune. She said the two congregations are very close-knit.
“We personally know somebody who lost someone.”
Law enforcement officials also responded to several bomb threats Sunday evening, including some that were at churches, Michigan State Police Lt. Kim Vetter said. Those buildings had been cleared, she said.
“Extreme courage, brave, and that’s the type of community that we are," Grand Blanc Twp. Police Chief Renye said tonight.
It's been a while — if ever —since I cried after a news conference.
Much love to my LDS friends today.
