I’ve been astonished my entire life at the degree of competence people assign to the CIA and the FBI. This notion of the CIA as an immensely powerful entity with its tentacles pulling strings globally is laughably inaccurate. They’d love to be, yes, but god have they been inept.

Sadly exactly zero of them have the capacity to do so.

I guess … having studied fascism extensively in my history degree, I may have a different understanding of the nature of fascism than many. Can’t help you there.

If this is addressed to me, try re reading my comment for the historical point (and if you need further historical parallels, study the Spanish Civil War and how the fractures and squabbling of the non fascists led to fascist victory). History repeats unless we learn from it.

He’s playing from a playbook written and perfected by Europeans in the 20th Century. I’m glad they can recognize it, but almost every one of their countries has vigorous political movements using that playbook, including at least two countries where it is in power.

Sadly, the mythical “rest of the world” will at best tut tut a little unless their financial interests are hurt, then they will be mildly peeved. Europeans can barely rouse themselves to deal with an existential threat to their East, and Asia / Africa have other concerns.

Most of the world is too weak to care as long as it doesn’t hurt their financial bottom line and their economies. Look for no moral center out there. It’s almost non existent.

I am heartened by the significant change in discourse about the MAGA regime in DC. And that is the rapidly exploding use of the term “regime” for the MAGA “government”. The term “regime” is unambiguous in rejecting democratic legitimacy to such a government. Their lawlessness deserves that title.
