I’m reserving judgement super hard. I still think this could turn into something very navel gazing.

But also, they got director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna back. Frankel initially turned down the first movie because he didn’t want to make a revenge story. The two of them re-invented the book together, because they had a strong vision for it. Could the same be true this time?
She’s shot down the idea of reprising Miranda Priestley before. Considering she had more input than actors generally have in this role, she must surely feel some artistic integrity towards Priestley. Her return is interesting.
The cynical explanation is that all the leads were given truckloads of money, and maybe that was a factor. But it’s not like any of them are struggling in their careers right now. And Streep is famously reluctant to do sequels. They barely got her back for Mamma Mia 2.
My thoughts on Devil Wears Prada 2.
Gut feeling is that it’ll be a shameless nostalgia grab with very little to say.
However… the one thing that gives me pause is that they somehow managed to get everyone back.
one thing that would be cool, when prominent creators turn out to be terrible people, would be if we didn't have to go through this performative dance of insisting that their work was never good in the first place.

Runtime is another consideration, but I’d say the most common reason a scene gets cut is because it flows poorly in context. A scene may work perfectly in isolation, but in the edit it may slow the pace, feel disconnected or interrupt the narrative in a way that harms the overall viewing experience.
I’m seeing Wicked takes complaining that the deleted scenes should’ve been kept because they’re good.
Yeah, of course they’re good. D’you think filmmakers waste time shooting scenes they think won’t be good? There’s plenty other reasons scenes get cut.
