Naoki Hamaguchi says that considering that toward the end of FFVII Rebirth, we’re in the Forgotten City — and in the original you would go into Icicle Inn from there — he guesses that hints at how the third installment will begin. #FF7R #FFVII #FF7
Nojima says he's approaching the scenario on the assumption that the story will essentially follow the flow of the OG, with small changes to how things are presented and the events that take place. He'd personally like to include villages that first appeared in Crisis Core: FFVII. (7RU, 2020) #FF7R
FF7R co-director Motomu Toriyama says there were times where the original version of FF7 became a hindrance. Specifically, staff members with a strong attachment to Final Fantasy VII would often hold themselves back for fear of deviating too much from the original. (7RU, 2020)
Nomura says that initially, FFVII Remake's developers planned to include almost no "flashbacks" to future scenes until the party left Midgar. But the staff kept sneaking in glimpses of future events, and many ended up staying in despite Nomura's attempt to screen them. (7RU, 2020) #FF7R #FF7
Nojima says that after he finished writing, Toriyama and the scenario team would make revisions, and then adjustments would be made to the dialogue during voice recording so he never knew how much of what he originally wrote would remain until everything was completed (7RU, 2020)
cloud and sephiroth fight at the end of remake in the rebirth recap
Nojima says they weren’t planning on having Sephiroth appear so much in Remake at first. Hamaguchi came up to Nomura one day and said in a mysterious tone, “I’d like to talk to you about something.” He asked him about having there be a battle with Sephiroth in Midgar. (7RU, 2020) #FF7R
An Unexpected Extrovert?
Though ordinarily cool and brusque, there’s a side to Cloud that gets caught up in the energy of the moment. When delivering a speech to rouse the Seventh Infantry, he initially struggles for words, but after some positive feedback, Cloud’s spirits begin to rise (RbU, 2024)

Sephiroth smiling
FFVII Rebirth cutscene director Hidekazu Miyake says the team put an unexpected amount of work into making Sephiroth feel human in Nibelheim. The team debated how to do so, and decided to have him do things like cross his arms and pat Cloud on the back encouragingly (RbU, 2024) #FF7R #FF7 #Sephiroth
Madam M is a bewitching woman who owns a hand massage parlor. She once gave a massage to Cloud—a deep rubdown that left him feeling spent. Now she seeks to parley with a businessman in Costa del Sol, hoping to rebuild Wall Market in the power vacuum left by Corneo. (RbU, 2024) #FF7R #FF7 #FFVII
Modeoheim, which appears in Crisis Core: FFVII, is one of several sites Shinra considered for a mako reactor. It flourished for a time before being abandoned when construction plans were pulled. A man helping care for black robes in Nibelheim mentions its natural hot springs. (RbU 2024) #FF7R #FF7
Glenn is 38 years old. Originally a P0-Class operator—an early type of Shinra SOLDIER—Glenn deserted his post following a failed mission 15 years ago. Thereafter, he went about forming connections with various anti-Shinra forces. (RbU, 2024)
FFVII Rebirth cover
Tetsuya Nomura says he initially planned on using the "Rebirth" subtitle for the third FFVII remake game, intending to call the second "Reunion." However, he realized the word's meaning fit better with part two, and decided to use "Reunion" for the Crisis Core remaster. (RbU, 2024) #FF7R #FF7
"The Happy Turtle Jingle" from FFVII Remake INTERmission starts with a line from the first Happy Turtle flyer found in the OG. Moreover, it features a reference to the doormat seen on the map in Wutai, which is part of an idiom about enjoying a long life (lit. "the turtle lives 10,000 years").
Geisel
Geisel Bugenhagen is 130 years old. The blood of the Cetra who once cultivated the nearby land runs through Bugenhagen’s veins as well—though only in trace amounts—and is partly to thank for his long lifespan. (RbU, 2024) #FF7R #Bugenhagen

They conveyed this through subtle movements of his shoulders, fingers, etc. (RbU, 2024) #FF7R #FF7 #CloudStrife

FFVII Rebirth localization producer Eri Asano says Dio's name was changed to "Dyo" in the Italian version because "Dio" means "God" in Italian. For Dio's autograph, they made the spelling look ambiguous by using cursive. Otherwise, it might look like God signed it. (RbU, 2024)

Tetsuya Nomura’s Super-Special Journey with Square, Vol. 10 The Long-Awaited Final Installment: Nomura Discusses His Future Prospects! The one and only Tetsuya Nomura returns to cap off his beloved monthly column. Read on one last time as he recounts past projects with customary Tosa flare. Then, Nomura shares a progress report on two games he’s currently helping develop, as well as a final message for GW readers. Tetsuya Nomura - Profile A graphic designer on Square Co, Ltd.’s development team. Born October 8th, 1970. Hails from Kōchi Prefecture. Known for his work on FFVII, FFVIII, Parasite Eve, and more. Likes to watch TV in his free time. Lately obsessed with…deadlines! You’re currently involved in two projects right now: The Bouncer, for the PS2, and an unnamed title you’re working on with Disney. Today, I was hoping we could hear about your responsibilities with each and get a sense of where they stand in terms of progress. We’ll start with The Bouncer, if that’s okay. “I’m in charge of the character design and a bit of the general concept work. As for where things stand with my parts, I guess I’m at the alternate outfit and minor design tweaks stage… There’s just a few things to wrap up with that. The CG characters are feeling quite good at this point. I think they’re about ready to show off to everyone, so definitely look forward to that. “My work’s just about all done on The Bouncer, so I guess you could say I’m feeling pretty excited… I really just wanna see how this Square–DreamFactory Collaboration turns out.” [Image caption:] The Bouncer features Nomura’s characters moving around in high-quality, movie-like scenes. He’s currently hard at work trying to refine his creations even further.
Next up, we have the unnamed Disney title. What can you tell us about that? “All I can really say about my role in the project right now is I’m working in a directorial capacity. Mainly I’m focused on creating the plot, holding meetings between our staff and Disney’s, and gathering new members for the team. “But seeing as it’s me who’s involved, there might just be one other task on my plate… Anyway, the staff we’ve put together is super talented, and there’s no real need for me to butt in trying to help. Really, I’m just keeping an eye on things. “As far as progress goes, I think we’re maybe farther along than people suspect. To the point of actually having stuff on screen, you know? After this, we’ll be dipping back behind the scenes to keep the project moving, but be sure to keep it on your radar.” [Image caption:] A collaborative title is also in the works with animation goliath Disney. We’re excited to see Disney’s characters duke it out (or team up) with Nomura’s creations. Finally, do you have any parting message for our Game Walker readers? “I’m grateful for everyone out there who’s read the column. Thanks also to those who sent in letters. I do a lot of these magazine interviews, and I find it’s often difficult to say what I really want to in my own words. But on this occasion, I feel like I was able to speak with my own voice somewhat [somewhat?]. Lastly, keep an eye out for all the young talent here [at Square]—they’re sure to deliver.” This Month’s Doodle Nomura’s characters and the staff behind this column gather for a farewell party befitting our final installment! Thanks to all our readers for the continued support. Until we all meet again! [Image text:] Thank you! Bye-bye!

Asked about an adult version of Shinra from Final Fantasy X-2, appearing in a photo, FFVII Remake Codirector Toriyama says they did this so players can enjoy the speculation, but it could just be a commemorative photo of one of the company employees cosplaying as him

The new Steam version will likely not be compatible with 7th Heaven and its mods for a period of time (could be weeks or months), but we and the rest of the modding community will try to get it working asap. It all depends on exactly what this new version is and how it's built.
You can DM us here, or contact us on Discord. Either way is fine!
