I think this is a reasonable call if the mess is internal to the codebase, but if the mess is awkward abstractions or outright incorrect behaviors that are exposed to users, it’s best to nip it in the bud before your bugs become “common-law features”.

This is pretty cool (I had this same thought myself) and honestly not a bad business idea as a web service. "People who are strongly considering dropping 4–5 figures on an HVAC system" seems like an audience that businesses would be eager to advertise to.

Had a similar experience in Fiji where four random local dogs took us on a hike through the national park. Or we took them on a hike? The only scary part is one of them had a car-chasing instinct leading them to be repeatedly inches away from getting run over.
