Kremlin shifts stance on Ukraine talks as Peskov says reality has changed
The Kremlin has abruptly announced a shift in its negotiating stance on Ukraine: until recently Moscow issued ultimatums; now it has backed away from its previous line.
Russian authorities unexpectedly said they have changed their approach to talks over the war in Ukraine. President Vladimir Putinβs spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, acknowledged that the terms Moscow once pushed no longer match the current situation.
In effect, the Kremlin publicly admitted for the first time that the conditions Russia spent years trying to force on Kyiv no longer work.
Peskov was answering a question from the state news agency TASS about whether Moscow remains committed to the 2022 Istanbul understandings or βthere are changes.β βThe entire reality has changed,β the Kremlin spokesman said.
The statement stands in stark contrast to the Kremlinβs earlier demands. Previously, Moscow β and Putin personally - repeatedly insisted that any talks must be based solely on those agreements.
βUntil recently Moscow issued ultimatums; now the Kremlin has abandoned its previous line,β observers note.
For years, Russian officials insisted the Istanbul understandings should be the foundation of a peace deal. The Kremlin claimed Ukraine was obliged to return to those terms and that Kyivβs position would only worsen over time.
Now, the Russian side is effectively conceding that the old line no longer matches reality.
Amid a lack of major breakthroughs at the front and mounting pressure on Russiaβs economy, Moscow is gradually softening its tone. Ukrainian strikes on military targets inside Russia, logistical problems and growing economic strains are making the Kremlinβs earlier ultimatums increasingly unrealistic.
In essence, Peskovβs statement amounts to an indirect acknowledgment that Russia can no longer dictate terms as confidently as it once tried to.

Jeff - I shared the #DogShirtTV episode about Svetlana with an American UA activist who was a tad confused by Ben's monologue. This got me thinking-maybe Ben/Anastasia/Svetlana could edit down that podcast into a stand-alone, no-nonsense one about the battery project. Please pass this idea on.

"The cruelty is the point" is a nice slogan, but doesn't provide any explanation of why it's the point. The real point is to have citizens so afraid of DHS / ICE that they will "obey in advance" - i.e. not show up at protests, not vote for fear of being detained, etc.

he's mixing up absolute dollars of taxes(tariffs) paid with percentage of income paid to taxes (tariffs). The notion of regressevity refers to the latter while his argument is talking about the former. Econ 101 material. Get this freaking idiot out of government.

The Rubio speech is incoherent and hypocritical. He denounces Soviet communism, the threat and division it sowed in Europe, yet has absolutely nothing to say about Ru's current attempt to restore restore the Soviet empire by re-invading and re-subordinating swaths of Europe. What's worse,...

Don't understand how someone could write a piece on this topic and not even mention the USPS new policy on dating the intake of a piece of mail, and how this can be manipulated to nullify millions of mail-in votes in blue districts.

This has raised a question for me: to avoid the need for senate confirmation, can the President simply get someone anodyne in a role and tell them to do everything some random guy says, or they're fired?
I think the answer is yes, and impeachment is the only remedy

Detained by ICE, two women became first responders during agentβs seizure
The women say they guided agents through the emergency, later raising concerns about medical protocols, weapons safety and accountability.
Two women trained as first responders were abducted by three ICE agents. One of the agents starts seizing. The other two donβt know what to do. The women jump into action and save the agentβs life, only to be re-handcuffed and processed.

Q: What goals do you have for '26 in Congress for your agenda?
TRUMP: I have great executive orders. Like, water coming out of a sink. The water wouldn't come out. They had all sorts of restrictions. I took them off. Straws. They don't have to be paper anymore. I'd like to have all that confirmed.

I donβt think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.
