We are Boston and we will never abandon our values.

Today, with mayors and city managers from Cambridge, Chelsea, Lynn, Newton, Brookline, Medford, and Somerville, I signed an “Executive Order To Protect Bostonians From Unconstitutional and Violent Federal Operations.”

EXECUTIVE ORDER OF MAYOR MICHELLE WU
An Executive Order To Protect Bostonians
From Unconstitutional and Violent Federal Operations
WHEREAS: The City of Boston is the safest major city in America, and remains committed to
ensuring public safety for all its residents and holding all perpetrators of crime
accountable; and
WHEREAS: This commitment to public safety requires the pursuit of justice regardless of the
identity of the victim or the perpetrator; and
WHEREAS: The U.S. Constitution reserves for state and local governments—not the federal
government—certain “police powers,” including providing for public safety1
; and
WHEREAS: The Tenth Amendment enshrines this reality, establishing that state and local
governments hold the authority to enact public safety policies, and prohibiting the
federal government from commandeering state and local resources2
; and
WHEREAS: Courts across the country have held that the federal government cannot compel
the use of local resources for federal immigration enforcement3
; and
WHEREAS: The Boston Trust Act—enacted in 2014, amended in 2019, and reaffirmed in
2024—reflects the City of Boston’s commitment to dedicating resources to
criminal law enforcement, not civil immigration enforcement, consistent with the
Constitution, state law, and the City’s dedication to the community policing that
keeps its neighborhoods safe4

WHEREAS: The federal government has recklessly deployed immigration enforcement agents to American cities, including Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, and Portland and Lewiston, Maine, and in these deployments, federal agents have fomented chaos, violated residents’ constitutional rights, and perpetrated egregious acts of violence, including the fatal shootings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti; and WHEREAS: The International Association of Chiefs of Police, in recognition of the fear and tension this federal administration has caused nationwide, has called for a renewed “commitment to constitutional protections that safeguard individuals from unlawful or unreasonable searches and seizures, recognizing that public trust and effective policing depend on faithful adherence to these fundamental rights”5 ; and WHEREAS: Federal officials may be subject to criminal prosecution for violations of state law, 6 contrary to the dangerous, unfounded claim by seniormost Trump Administration officials that ICE agents enjoy “absolute immunity”; and WHEREAS: The deployment of federal officials to Minneapolis and St. Paul constitutes an unlawful occupation of those cities, violating the constitution and subverting the Supreme Court’s prohibition on the deployment of National Guard troops to achieve the same coercive goals7 ; and WHEREAS: ICE officials have consistently employed tactics designed to create fear and escalate tension, including wearing masks and hiding their identities, refusing to identify themselves, claiming the right to enter private homes without warrants, and not using body-worn cameras, practices which are unfamiliar to Massachusetts law enforcement, below the high ethical standards reflected in our laws, and all of which jeopardize public safety and order in our communities; and WHEREAS: The official response from senior federal officials to the death and violence caused by ICE operations demonstrates a callous disregard for human life and a willingness

STATEMENT ON ICE SHOOTING
OF ALEX PRETTI

After another gruesome act of fatal violence by federal agents on the streets of Minneapolis, all Americans must demand that the Trump Administration end its deadly, unlawful, and unconstitutional occupation of the Twin Cities.

The ongoing invasion of our cities by a dangerous and out-of-control federal administration must be stopped. This week, the City of Boston led 44 cities around the country in supporting the federal lawsuit to end the illegal ICE surge in Minnesota.

Our hearts are with Alex Pretti's loved ones and the people of Minnesota and we share their grief. While we mourn once again a tragic and needless death, we urge the court to take immediate action to stop the violence, end the occupation, and help local leaders in the Twin Cities restore peace to these communities under siege.

Just did some googling and in case anyone was wondering the timelines for Idiocracy and Wall-E do not line up for them to be the same universe.

In Wall-E, Buy N Large evacuates humanity in the 22nd century, which doesn’t line up with President Terry Crews ruling in the 26th century.
