It does not right any wrongs, and it does not seek to address any underlying issues or systemic failures.
It is not a Criminal Justice System because its very foundation, Punitive Justice, is a contradiction.

A note from How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi. It explains why in this version of the book, "criminal justice system" has been replaced with "criminal punishment system." "NOTE ON THE CRIMINAL PUNISHMENT SYSTEM: As abolitionists have pointed out in recent years, this system is hardly a justice system. It is not oriented toward justice, meaning it is not oriented toward accountability, toward healing or eliminating the root causes of harm, whether structural or individual. One reason for this: the widespread racist ideas that Black people are inherently criminals, and Black neighborhoods are inherently dangerous. The "crime" is there because the Black people are there. So there's no way to stop the "crime." There's only the surveillance, policing, and punishment of these "Black criminals" to deter more "crime." This is an orientation toward punishment. It is no longer accurate to call it the criminal justice system. It is more precise to call it the criminal "punishment" system. And this system must be abolished to bring into being antiracism, safety, and justice for the people."
~1/3 into How to Be an Antiracist. This annotation on replacing "Criminal Justice System" w/"Criminal Punishment System" has me thinking...
Punitive vs Restorative vs Transformative Justice. True Justice is inherently Restorative AND Transformative. The alternative is just Structural Retribution.

Or what's on the wish list?
Barbie Scanimals Pet Rescue toy. A pink and blue/purple toy with a UPC scanner. You would "find" animals, treats, etc in bar codes and then play with them like a Tamagotchi.
What's something you had as a kid that you have repurchased as an adultβjust for the whimsy?
blood frequency by nat weaver. a oval disk is hovering at the top of the page with a beam of light shining down. a frequency pitch is underneath.
Blood Frequency by Nat Weaver is a fantastic and seamless blend of genres, creating something incredibly unique, and instantly compelling

Happy Birthday! π
It's my birthday. On this, the day the Earth was destined to be destroyed, i command you to buy the book and request that you share with your friends so they too might become entranced, enraged, and engorged by the sexy action drama of #Boombride
Supporting an indie writer means enabling literary crimes, unhinged plot twists, and scenes that live rent-free in your brain forever

A screenshot of a text exchange. From "Brother." "Your husband is ducking me. Do you guys have any interest in a smoker?" "Wh... what? Like a meat smoker? Like for meat? A meat smoker? To put meat in?" "Indeed a meat smoker. For meat. To put meat in."
Personal positive news: due to a series of events, we received a free meat smoker π
Alt: a kids' football coach is kneeling and opening a gift. He pulls out a travel mug and reads what it says, then hugs the kid who gave it to him. The kid then holds a piece of paper and reads a letter to his coach. He starts crying, and the coach gives him a big hug.

I hadn't considered areas without sidewalks. Is there some other delineation/marker for where city property starts? Or do you just kinda know/estimate however many feet?
It feels appropriate, I think!
Michigan can't make up its dang mind π I ended up going with "parkway" in CryptidWIP because it specifically lists Grand Rapids and that's the general area the story's in. What would the Philosopher Queens say? π€
Indeed, I have just learned of "boulevard" as an option! Seems confusing, what with actual boulevards/streets around π€
Yeah I didn't either until a few years ago. How is there not an actual, proper name for it?
You may be in "parkway" territory? This is the rabbit hole I went down the other day.

Survey Time π
What do you call the strip of land between the sidewalk and the street? (The place you would put your garbage bins for pickup?)
I've learned this is incredibly region-specific.
I picked up "tree lawn" from Cleveland people and am immediately on an island with this π€£
Porto is such a vibrant city. It woke me from a long sleep.

Lungidus and Loyenie by Nush Deco. They are two characters from the Pentagonal Dominion books. They are married, deeply in love, and having a good time as they float through Monoceros, a crystalline city. Lungidus is a dark skinned, black-haired man in a green coat and hat, with a bardiche. Loyenie is a tan-skinned, red-haired woman in an elegant, sparkly dress and holding a glass. Above them, the purple moon of Aloutia shines bright with the planetary ring in front of it and the pink stars high above.
New artwork from Nush! Here we have Lungidus and Loyenie, two souls deeply in love with each other, living their best lives in Monoceros, the crystalline, tropical capital of Aloutia, where Lungidus is a guard and Loyenie is an assassin. They are the parents of Tynan, my next book's MC
