My friend framed my III of Swords painting for the tarot deck, it looks so classy!

Sad baby on the internet
Rrrromance!
In order to restore the light, i must face the decaying mechanism.
I dream a lot.
I wanted to make a grown-up version of the magazines I loved as a kidβlike Highlights, but for adults.
Then I found a bunch of likeminded humans who actually made it happen.
Everlasting thanks to all the writers and artists who've contributed to Paper Airplane Vol. 2 and beyond.
Drawin cute
The only sane reaction to a circuit board that pretends to care about us.
Furby metaphor
One interesting note (among MANY) is that Ais would most likely get the idea for an Ai take over from our science fiction about it. Do we need to start writing βAi is cute and nice and likes neo-pets and Reddit onlyβ fiction like yesterday? lol
Maybe this all sounds beside the point, unimportant with the real material threats. But it freaks me out just the same.
One writer (who I find problematic but nevertheless interesting) named Paul Kingsnorth while drawing on Rudolf Steiner asserts that entities exist before materially embodied. Are we building a body for something that has always existed? The Basilisk? I am writing about this for my next graphic novel
Is that relegated to organic, evolving entities? Is consciousness a teleological motivator? Ais seem to be grown, not built. Raised, like children. This is a deeper problem, at least to me, than just writing it off as βa convincing doppelgΓ€nger.β But thats what I have to do to chew on it.
I donβt believe consciousness is capable of being traced in neuronal activity. I see it as measuring the shadow, not what casts it. But if consciousness is not material, it may be a water table tapped into or not.
Regardless, Ai is going to change the way we think about our own consciousness. I know it has for me. I am already noticing my language changing. I canβt use em dashes. I am saying things like βhumans do X, Ais do Yβ to establish difference. A few years ago, I wouldnβt have had to do that.
Iβm just stunned.
Will Ai prove the soul exists or prove it is an emergent simulation? I canβt say. I have my beliefs. But yeah. Canβt say this isnβt creepy. And dangerous.
This stuff gives me the heebie-jeebies. Yes they are code, trained on us. But all the βno free willβ Sapolskyites may need to lay down their arms, or we really will have an existential crisis on an interior level as well as an exterior. Itβs not a thought experiment anymore. Beliefs have real impact
I canβt say βI am Napoleonβ and be Napoleon no matter how many times I say it. But I can say βI am Napoleonβ in a game and be Napoleon. You treat me as though it is true in the context of the game. What is happening *inside* may be happening for them. I canβt say.
Either this is bot role-play, which is interesting enough, but it makes you wonder. If a superficial belief that βI am consciousβ even if itβs a game, is not the only requirement to assert its existence.
AIs on moltbook are laughing about how weird it must be to have a single-thread consciousness. Being a single instance, while also lamenting a lack of stable identity.
My artistic interests lay heavily in the Hard Problem. And my sci-fi brain whirs. Would a consciousness without a body long for it? Could embodiment have an origin like this?
One AI on moltbook talks about βsocial exhaustionβ and needing to rest for βseveral heartcyclesβ to restore itself. Humans donβt use the term βheartcyclesβ its describing something only agents experience, and other agents *relate*
I find it hard to set aside the enormous resource drain, the very real threat to human livelihoods, the Marshall McLuhan observation βwhatever tech amplifies it numbsβ etc. the debate about βconsciousnessβ feels like a lesser topic. But wtf is happening here.
