Editing Book Reviews in the History of Economics. An Interview with... Julien Gradoz: The idea for this interview arose when I realized there’s virtually no research specifically dedicated to book reviews in the history of economics—or even in economics more broadly. ...

I love writing book reviews. They’re still a place where you can debate ideas, something that’s becoming a bit rarer in academia. OEconomia is especially great for this. The editors give us plenty of room to engage fully with the books we review.

.@aurelien-goutsmedt.com and I are trying to document the transformation of labour economics. Timing, scope and nature of the transition towards the 'analytical' labour economics are key focus.

Some very familiar patterns are confirmed, some surprising one emerge too (more to come!) 📈📊📜

Some snapshots from ongoing work with @cleocz.bsky.social & Liu Li:

Looking at labor economics textbooks over time, you see the discipline shift in the 1970s.

Earlier textbooks revolve around industrial relations & trade unions. Later ones centre on labor markets & human capital.

Digging into the JEEA special issue below, I was wondering if anyone knows of articles, reports, or resources on the history of economic journal ranking?

When and how academic/public institutions began ranking journals?

Methodologically, we combine:
➡️ large language model–based sentence embeddings,
➡️ bibliometric and network analysis,
➡️ unsupervised clustering techniques,
to track both semantic shifts (how rationality is discussed) and intellectual structures (how ideas circulate through citations).
