Paper day 🥳 we are happy to present a new paper on ArXiv today, led by @kosmoskasper.bsky.social examing the most distant, spectroscopically confirmed galaxy to date at z=14.2 (!)

Read the paper here:

Strong damped Lyman-α absorption in young star-forming galaxies at redshifts 9 to 11 Primordial neutral atomic gas, mostly composed of hydrogen, is the raw material for star formation in galaxies. However, there are few direct constraints on the amount of neutral atomic hydrogen (H I)...

The obvious answer to the biggest and most surprising cool discovery with JWST is, however, massive DLAs: ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2024Sci.... much greater Lyman-alpha absorption in three high-z galaxies (and many other now) than expected for any reionization scenarios 🤯 and not biased at all!

Agree with No. 3, an exciting discovery of tellurium in the long, ultra-bright GRB230307A!

On No. 2 the verdict is still out — are we really seeing broad emission lines from supermassive black holes?

No. 1+4 I’m not qualified to judge, but interesting none the less.
