I got it so I could fulfil my childhood ambition of finally playing Virtual Boy Wario Land, so the cardboard version is perfect for me.
If I had the shelf space and cash to spare, I might have got the full version just because it's a cool object.
I've only used it briefly, but yes.
If you just want to play the games, it feels worth it for £16 rather than £70. You're not supposed to play for more than 20 minutes at a time, and the games aren't great.
If you want something that looks like a Virtual Boy though, the headset is better.
