I was today years old when I learned that road traffic collisions alone (~£36bn) cost the UK economy more than the combined revenue of fuel duty & VED (~£35bn).

In fairness this does tend to happen now where dualling schemes occur. I have a 4km scheme being built in Norfolk currently where there's actually 2 new routes either side.
Trouble is there's resistance to connect the routes up so they end up being oases of cycle heaven that few will use.

At least you can correct that issue fairly easily. It's the "I'm just gonna watch videos at full volume with no headphones and if you ask me to turn it down I'm gonna make a big issue out of it and make the next 45 minutes super awkward for everyone" that has an extra special place in hell 🤣
