ego is their only guide
Just when you thought this tragedy couldn't get any stupider.
LLMs are an epistemic nightmare.

deception, cavalier attitude towards safety, openness to political corruption, to name three reasons. see my substack for lots of background.
I am seeing a lot of calls to boycott OpenAI β and I support them.
The whole thing was a scam

Itβs one thing for the government to reject @AnthropicAIβs termsβ- and entirely another to banish them permanently (and, absurdly and punitively declare them a supply chain risk) in favor of someone else who took pretty similar terms and happened to have given more campaign contributions.
I will never not be angry at the way tech bros have told us that the danger is apocalyptic superintelligence when it was always obvious that the reason to worry is that we would put dumb AI in really stupid places.
Embedding unreliable AI deep into the source code of the military without human oversight is the single stupidest thing we could do as a species.
And that is *exactly* what the United States is about to do.
The urgent plea of @garymarcus.bsky.social demands rapid action: the US Military, in the hands of fascists, seeks to bend Anthropic to the knee in the aims of incorporating AI into military weaponry. Gary asks us to call our political representatives right now. I just did. Now it's your turn.

If I could, I would like your attention for a moment. This post from @garymarcus.bsky.social is exceedingly important-please read it, share it, and take action.
The most urgent plea I have ever written. Please read and share.

I don't normally share the news of people's loved ones passing. I have yet to become comfortable with how social media handles this. But this essay by @garymarcus.bsky.social in honor of his mother is too wonderful not to share widely.
Code red for humanity?
I am genuinely frightened.

Great reference from @garymarcus.bsky.social to this comprehensive paper.

Besides many other important finding, this was pretty clear:
@garymarcus.bsky.social:
I have a hard time seeing how this doesnβt end badly. A recession, maybe worse.
Wow! @garymarcus.bsky.social has made the most important German daily newspaper! Congratulations on getting the message out there!

Free speech is a complicated beast.

best not miss!
Is the Great AI meltdown imminent? A huge shift from Nvidia doesnβt bode well for OpenAI or Generative AI maximalism:
What will A.I's impact be on scientific research? Melanie Mitchell Computer scientist βI believe this impact will not be as rapid as many think. A.I. systems still can't do things humans are essential for, like asking the right questions, planning experiments and entire scientific programs, and understanding data in different contexts.β
Gary Marcus Cognitive scientist βPeople are greatly confused about large language models, attributing a humanlike intelligence to mimicry machines that turn out to be superficial and unreliable. Intelligence is about reasoning flexibly in face of the unknown, and large language models continue to struggle mightily with that.β
Helen Toner A.I. policy researcher βI expect we'll have A.I. systems that can clearly contribute at the cutting edge of multiple scientific fields, but that you still wouldn't trust with planning summer camps for your kid.β
@melaniemitchell.bsky.social @garymarcus.bsky.social @hlntnr.bsky.social on where AI wonβt be taking science (βasking the right Qs, planning experiments &entire sci programs,&understanding data in diff contextsβ), intelligence (βreasoning flexibility in the face of the unknownβ) &summercamp madnessπ§ͺ
Hehe, quoting @garymarcus.bsky.social "if you care about the security of your device or the privacy of your data, donβt use OpenClaw. Period."
(Bonus : if your friend has OpenClaw installed, donβt use their machine. A. Donβt catch a CTD β chatbot transmitted disease)
OpenClaw (aka Moltbot) may have gone completely viral, but it is also a disaster waiting to happen.
A PSA for why you should steer clear.
