Excited to announce the publication of my novel, The Hollow of Evening, with Dundurn Press/Rare Machines in Winter 2027.
Gratitude to Akin Akinwumi and Meghan MacDonald of the press, as well as to the journals, editors, and organizations that have supported my writing through the years.
Thatβs a very precise way to put it. Iβve long been due for a re-read, as Iβd read it as an e-book and I think the aesthetic of the prose will have an even more haunting effect in print. Cheers, Alvin; very much looking forward to your book!
If you end up reading any, let me know your thoughts if you like. As well, havenβt interacted with you much on here, but wanted to say Iβm a fan of your short stories as well! I will have to pick up your novel or novella soon.
Of course! I had read it when it first came out as an e-book and was quite affected by it. Been wanting to revisit so thought I would get a physical copy. I think it will be interesting to read it along with the EdgΓΌ; I find thereβs some harmonies between your work and his. Cheers
Happy birthday-!
Blow out the candles of your cake They will not leave you in the dark, Who round with grace this dusky arc Of the grand tour which souls must take
I see a similar joke/observation has been made in this thread already. But yeah, do you feel a lot of the beginnings you get are too meandering, or is it more about space constraints in journals?
Okay I will send in a story in medias res and move my original structured beginning forward in the story a bit to be a flashback thus keeping the word count the same mmmkay?
The link leads to a forbidden page unfortunately
"When the radiance of an epiphany looks into every culpable flaw of your heart, it will not feel heroic or divine. Things long dormant within us grope for growth and all struggle to breathe. Even in winter, when the freezing interior plains are relieved by warm chinook winds, an unbroken wall of clouds still obscures and darkens the region." From An Impasse by Ian MacClayn.

Hahahaha
Do his novels start conversations with your work in neuroscience in any way?
Today we're featuring a lovely piece of fiction: "Auguries of Innocence" by @ianmacclayn

Ah thank you kindly for the link, I look forward to it. I will read before bed and hopefully influence my dreams.
Lovely. Where do I turn to read more from him on the abyss of childhood?
Relaxed! Hereβs a picture of my dog on a similar blanket, ha!
