"I’ve come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that’s invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you’re thirty-five is against the natural order of things.” — Douglas Adams

Anyway, for you maybe it's something else. The point is build back those pleasure pathways that you used to have before chasing these toxic highs. Any way you can. Though if you want to get into physical media specifically I can recommend a very good player.

It reminds me I used to have dopamine pathways that weren't constantly drawn to quick hits on the phone, and it has honestly rewired my brain better than anything else, rewinding me to a previous self I really missed.

For me developing a Blu-ray habit has helped. If I send 10 bucks on a film I am going to put my phone down and watch intently. I probably spend 40 bucks a week on Blu-rays but it's been really grounding for me.

I know I've done it in the past at the other place here and there. It's easy to get righteous about it. When they complain about being dogpiled it just juices you up more, right? How dare they!

Oh, so we're doing the "why are people so sensitive about getting dogpiled" thing again.

Fix your heart, folks. Or get a hobby at least.

Once reading improves, other concepts like "it can be bad to amplify propaganda campaigns even when I believe there is an underlying validity to some points" will follow

A rule of thumb I use with sentences is I tell myself to assume every word is there for a reason

A question you might be asking: How does amplifying an authoritarian smear campaign against private entities that won't capitulate to Trump advance your goals or reflect your values? Does it seem likely to make things better or worse?

Lot of supposed revolutionaries very happy to get co-opted into Trump administration propaganda efforts if it suits the story they like. Gullible cynics galore.

Look Anthropic isn't exactly saintly, but if you don't understand recent "scoops" about how Anthropic is being used by DoD are actually strategic and intentional leaks designed by the U.S. government to punish Anthropic for not folding to the Trump administration maybe punditry is not your skill?

I think it's also telling Grim can't comprehend why if he is not a Nazi the fact he didn't understand why a Nazi tattoo was bad and that he retweeting Holocaust deniers means at the very least the guy is easily fooled by Nazis, an fairly undesirable trait for a politician.

The Russian Apartments (Compilation 2009-2013), by The Russian Apartments 28 track album

Anyway, miss mcginty's ghost, 4 songs down on this playlist. I have zero idea why. They played Gods a bunch a month earlier when I released it as a single, and then when I put up the EP they started playing this one constantly russianapartments.bandcamp.com/album/the-ru...

Aren't the real Nazis the people that think a Nazi tattoo is Nazi is a surprisingly common position online

05.03.2026 04:16 👍 8 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0

Yes I hope that is clear. Though the way people are desperate to show they have not changed their minds at all you'd think they put up their house

05.03.2026 04:13 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

One other thing that is happening now is people are denying they ever said such things, which is fine actually! Most people change their minds by pretending they are just saying what they always said. This isn't Polymarket, no one is collecting on bets. Better debates are good for everyone.

This is a very good point. Naziism being normalized in our party is giving the opposition endless ammo and also a free pass to do more Roman salutes. All you people who got this guy where he is today, congrats.

It's true of course that this works to the benefit of bad actors. But the spiral also pulls in people who are legitimately concerned about the chaos they see. Bad information and deceptive framing leads to movements that take that urge to fix and pervert it.

Conspiracy theories led to precinct voting which led to a mess, which may lead to more conspiracy theory forever until the end of time.

One of the things we looked at with CIP was "vicious cycles" of misinformation and policy. Failures lead to conspiracy theories which lead to bad election policy which lead to more failures which leads possibly to more conspiracy theory. And so on. November is looking bleak.

kind of crazy that if you have enough money and don't like what you see in the media, you can just buy up every film studio, news station, and social media app and change it

Sam Altman just said he has tweaked his deal with the Pentagon and wrote a list of things he says are part of it, and he chose to include this really great line:

"One thing I think I did wrong: we shouldn't have rushed to get this out on Friday."
