Our primate demonstrates some things they learned to the other primates. Tool-making, fishing, fire-starting. The primates sit around a small fire peacefully.

Our primate walks into their cave, places worm-in-a-rock god on a bed of leaves and then lies down in their own. They sleep peacefully.

Emma in a dressing room trying on clothes with tags and strickers on them. Lish peeks in. “oh a crop top and capris! that’s cute,” she says. The clothes are actually just too small for Emma. Emma says, “that is not what they are”

another sketchy comic. Fanlee removes Spätzle’s smiling mask, revealing that Spätzle is crying underneath. Fanlee gives her a reassuring look, examines the mask, and crushes it underfoot. Fanlee huffs and turns back to say something to Spätzle, but finds Spätzle is already wearing a new mask.

The medical community had this debate in the 2000's specifically because of the abusive practices of patholigizing effeminate behavior of cis boys. They updated the DSM-V in 2013 specifically to add in a persistent strong desire to be treated as a different gender, not just gender non-conformity.

A few sketchy comic panels. Spätzle removes a smiling mask of herself, revealing she is crying underneath. A hand comes from out of frame and forces the mask back on. We see Spätzle’s mom from spätzle’s perspective, leaning over her with her arm outstretched. There is a close-up of her eyes glittering behind her own mask.

Anyway — it’s nearly been 3 years. Have you yet taken the opportunity to read Snow White by Donald Barthelme? How much longer will you need? It is a relatively short book, though I admit it is as insufferably written as this the whole way though. But I do love it very genuinely nonetheless.

apparently I never posted this one on bsky. Not a surprise since I 100% made this for myself alone and I could not reasonably expect any internet stranger to truly understand.

You are sitting there in your house on Neat Street, with your handsome wife and strapping sons, conceivably, and the gunmetal grey Equinox in the driveway

And opinions passing back and forth, about whether the township should install a new stop sign or not, whether the children should become neoscolastic Thomists or not, whether the gutter needs a cleaning or not.
A comfortable American scene.

But I am in your DMs, Mr. Quistgaard.
Think what that means.
It means that at any moment I can pierce your plenum with a keystroke.
You are correct, Mr. Quistgaard, in seeing this as a threatening situation.

The moment I inject discourse from my u. of d. into your u. of d., the yourness of yours is diluted.
The more I inject, the more you dilute. Soon you will be presiding over an empty plenum, or rather, since that is a contradiction in terms, over a former plenum, in terms of yourness.

Fanlee sits on the floor of her bathroom, typing into her phone. Overlaid is the UI of a Twitter DM — she is writing to @jquistgaard, who lists his full name as Jon Quistgaard. His user photo is a dog in glasses.

Fanlee writes:
DEAR MR. QUISTGAARD
Although you do not know me my name is Fanlee.
I have seized your name at random from the swirling mists of the internet in an attempt to enmesh you in my concerns.

Fanlee lays on her back on the floor, continuing to type:

You and I, Mr. Quistgaard, are not in the same universe of discourse.
You may not have been aware of it previously, but the fact of the matter is, that we are not. We exist in different universes of discourse.
Now it may have appeared to you, prior to your receipt of this communication, that the universe of discourse in which you existed, and puttered about, was in all ways adequate and satisfactory. It may never have crossed your mind to think that other universes of discourse distinct from your own existed, with people in them, discoursing.

Fanlee continues:

You may have, in a commonsense way, regarded your own u. of d. as a plenum, filled to the brim with discourse.
You may have felt that what already existed was a sufficiency. People like you often do.
That is certainly one way of regarding it, if fat self-satisfied complacency is your aim.

But I say unto you, Mr. Quistgaard: even a plenum can leak. Even a plenum can be penetrated.
New things can rush into your plenum displacing old things, things that were formerly there.
Consider then your situation now.

a comic. panel 1: spatzle, a duckling, peeks through a doorway. “Are you crying?” she says. panels 2-4: her mother, sitting mostly shrouded in darkness, wipes her eyes and says, “yes.” panel 5: Spätzle approaches her. She is tiny while her mother looms large, huddled in the darkened corner. “What’s wrong,” Spätzle asks. Her mother says, “everything.”
