At Grey Matter Books in Hadley, MA earlier this week, a great and sprawling used book store. The clerk explained that they had ended up with some items from Kitchen Sink Press when I asked about the signed Will Eisner print on the wall.

I had a friend in high school whose dad served in WW2, and that out of synch feeling was definitely the case for him

My grandad ran a paper in Dover, NJ and assigned the first story on Joe Kubert’s comic art school. he knew I loved comics and got Joe to draw this for me:

Mantlo Power! ROM and Micronauts are a great matched set—not just because they’re both toy tie-ins, but because Mantlo uses both to riff on fascism, supremacist ideology and other WW2-to-Cold War themes through a pop science fiction lens in interesting ways.

At the Bon Jovi/Skid Row show I went to in high school, when Bach took the stage in his seemingly painted on leather pants, the girls behind me screamed “LOOK AT THE SIZE OF HIS COCK!” Sorry, Ben Folds, you can’t compete with that.

The first issues of the DC Black Label series Catwoman: Lonely City by Cliff Chiang and Rogues by Joshua Williamson and Leomacs

The first issues of the DC Black Label series Catwoman: Lonely City by Cliff Chiang and Rogues by Joshua Williamson and Leomacs

I find it somewhat odd that DC launched these series within six months of each other, with the same basic premise: that villains can only be adults when the hero is dead or gone for a decade, taking their arrested development with them.

On Tales of Asgard, Marvel failed to realize that lens flares and metallic gleams were superfluous; Kirby’s line art already *is* the special effect

It’s in my top three computer color disasters, along with Marvel doing it to Kirby’s Tales of Asgard, and Dynamite’s desecration of Thorne’s Red Sonja.

Dad’s dad was a newspaper editor (having been a WW2 reporter and OSS agent); mom’s stepdad was a letter carrier and postmaster (whose family owned a big lumberyard; he had driven an ambulance in the Korean conflict); mom’s bio dad was a race car driver and general dirtbag

I’ve struggled to articulate my issue with Democrats making their main argument against war on Iran about domestic affordability, and I think that may be it. They’re arguing Trump doesn’t mean what he says but in our technocratic efficiency we’ll do a better job of enacting his agenda than he will.

Jeffries, implicitly: Democrats are more serious about implementing Trump’s America First agenda than he is

I am a living example of that Onion story about the guy making his kid listen to Talking Heads, here to say it can pay off.

If you have never read an issue of Thirteen Going on Eighteen, if you assume it was a romance comic and not a light teen comedy about age-appropriate relationships, and you don’t know what the phrase “going on 18” means, then I can see how you jump to a certain conclusion—but it’s a wrong one.
