Still can’t book online. I am going to have to phone them and give an unnecessarily long explanation.

Driver survives collision with train An elderly driver had a lucky escape when his car was struck by a train at the Victoria Street level crossing in Brunswick on Wednesday.

Yesterday I was in the vicinity of a very scary accident on a level crossing in Brunswick. So glad that the driver of the car, train driver and passengers are all ok. brunswickvoice.com.au/driver-survi...

I just checked a flight booking, panicked because I thought it was on the wrong date, cancelled it feeling smug that I had bought refundable tickets then immediately realised I had booked the correct date all along. Now can’t rebook as they say it is a duplicate booking.

A few weeks of X’s algorithm can make you more right-wing – and it doesn’t wear off quickly Elon Musk’s social media platform is boosting conservative content – and it’s having long-lasting effects on how users see the world.

Latest article from me in The Conversation this morning.

I discuss a new Nature study that finds X's algorithmic feed is politically biased (surprise, surprise!). I explore the idea of social media platforms as faulty infrastructure in need of a fix.

I was a music geek kid at a sporty school. An ice rink in my home town had curling and school gave an option to try it out for a term instead of (probably) field hockey. Broke my wrist the second week and never went back but a girl in my class got really into it and ended up doing competitions.

What Jo said! I just got a paper published that has been in various stages of review for a year. Two sets of revisions and then accepted. We would rather it had happened quicker but it’s a much better paper and one reviewer was especially constructive and helpful. Congrats you are a step closer!

Is anyone aware of research around neurodivergence and β€˜track changes’ in Word. It makes my brain want to explode and I just can’t look at it. This might be one of those β€˜yeah everyone hates it Lizzy’ things but I know another nd academic who finds it the same. See also Discord.

Feeling inspired after the #FACT2026 symposium in Melbourne. One of my favourite events of the year and so well run by the ACMI team. I especially enjoyed seeing Jason Scott’s presentation on the Internet Archive

Admittedly most people seem better at balancing things out for me but I have noticed this β€˜bunching’ thing with my writing that means I get these years where I have lots of papers and then years where I have hardly any.

I run out of data for stuff to write about periodically and then need to spend time applying for grant funding then actually doing the research and then you’ve got data again for a few years. Repeat until forever

This isn’t a boast btw. I’ve been super stressed as had a few stingy rejections last year which has set me back and was worried about not hitting my β€˜targets’ but had a couple of acceptance emails at the start of the year that means things are moving again

Due to a combination of factors including (but not limited to) my super human procrastination it is looking like I will multiple papers that have been languishing in review seemingly forever published this year. Woohoo!

First class in new uni taught last night. Great to meet the first cohort of Records and Archives students in Adelaide Uni. Biggest thing that went wrong was that I couldn't figure out how to turn off the waiting room in the AU version of zoom so definitely could have been worse.
