Out of context quote: Yeah. You guys are uh, you're kinda creepy. I think this might be a stupid idea.

The forecast shows a whiplash for mmHg coming too. This could end poorly ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ™ƒ

Oh, also, I've been craving and drinking caffeine all day. And still I'm feeling like this.๐Ÿ™ƒ

Yeah, I'd had enough caffeine to fend off a migraine apparently. But damned this is rough. It feels worse than the cold I recently got done with. I just may hibernate the whole weekend.

I just confirmed my area's barometric pressure took a nosedive around 8am, right around when the fatigue started creeping in. Bleh.

The dog whistles "populist ideas"...etc. My ears hurt.

No they didn't.

I think his reply was something on the order of "Because if that's all we do, then people like us, other programmers can hide those boxes, revealing what's beneath."

The person asking the question had an "oh shit" look on their face.

When I worked for Kroll Ontrack, as a software engineer, I heard someone ask why we didn't just export original PDFs with the redaction boxes over the relevant parts to speed up e-document production.

The lead engineer of the project went silent for a bit trying to keep his composure. ๐Ÿ˜†

Who do I know with strong opinions on cameras in the $150-600 range that can work just fine as-is but could ideally be looped into a full setup with a boom mic one day?

Likewise. And I've had substantial medical cost increases.

And I've had peers give me side eyes about what I can and can't afford. *facepalm* (The tech industry has seen some subsegments salaries grow faster than inflation. But when your individual expenses grow just as fast...)

Well well well... if it isn't my old nemesis: weather related severe fatigue. How "convenient" of you to stop by in the middle of a Friday afternoon.

I mean "inflation" has been regularly 5-10% in the past few years. Who among non-execs got 5-10% raises? And that inflation rate is not even across all of society - it's an average that doesn't take into account regional costs of living, etc. so many things have been seeing 20%+ cost increases!

human shaped robots: redux
human shaped robots: redux YouTube video by Angela Collier

Angela nailing the flaws of how the robots and "ai" actually work in her latest. Its the reason why they keep trying to stay in the abstract realm of data manipulation, because real world problems are hard. Us physical beings can make abstractions, but the abstractions cant do anything physical.

As it should be. If we can't get them to behave because it's the right thing, we can at least scare them into it.

But were they taken seriously? ๐Ÿ˜œ

Also, that's hilarious! I love it!

The end thickness will be 1/8th as I laminate two boards together in the desired shape with their grains running perpendicular. This prevents warping, especially during casing in.

They're cut laminated, but need a couple days in the book press before I can try casing it all in.

So, if I showed up with a set of over the ear, ear muffs, and they had Krusty the Clown on them, and I had a red rubber nose on, with Krusty wig, you're saying I'd be taken seriously?

Kat wants terrible, terrible things for Chicago and beyond, like universal basic income, repealing Citizens United, standing up to ICE, and universal childcare.

Where's my money โœจ

Them: "How dare Kat want to do things that help others! Doesn't she know that her perfectly reasonable behavior and stances lets folks see how unreasonable our candidate is? That's a breach of decorum that can't be allowed to stand... Let's smear her and do it on the cheap!"

Another thing they end up strongly resembling is cuneiform, which I dislike. (My eyes go wonky and I can't read them correctly if I try reading them like the Latin alphabet, chinese ideographs, or Brahmi scripts. I have to go VERY slowly.)

13.03.2026 14:23 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I'm not surprised by these symbols being what you're referencing. Also when trying to build alphabets assigning certain shapes and letter regions (eg. upper left)and using straight lines. You almost inevitably end up with symbols resembling these and some can end up reproducing fascist symbols.

13.03.2026 14:23 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It sucks so much, right? I've got a parallel concern: They've coopted basically any severely angular and simple symbol. So no matter how cool of an alphabet I could make bearing similar features, it cannot help but be dangerously close to current or future fascist symbology. So I don't do that.

Therapist [holding a sphere in their hand before me, to get me to understand what is meant by experience and perspective]: Jason, I'd like you to point to the /right/ side of this.

Me [scrunching my face]: Don't you think it's weird to ask which side of a sphere is correct? Isn't that judging?

And this is coming from someone who loves engaging in "intentional misunderstand" wordplay coupled with ironic metaphor.

Some people should never be exposed to metaphor. They take the damned shit literally.
