The part that gets me is that Biden didn't pardon Hunter until the point where he was sure Trump was going to be president who, by his own admission, was going to act vindictively from day one. Given the choice, he felt he had to act as a father protecting his son.

The muck contains Nitrosomas and Nitrobacter. One breaks down ammonia from wastewater into Nitrites. The other converts nitrites into the Nitrates the plants can consume. The symbiotic relationship created allows the plants to use any water, even urine in moderation, as both water and fertilizer.

That was absolutely hilarious, and another person worthy of my attention was found. :)

Wonderful work!

Mound compost around the plant to provide nutrients and reduce evaporation.

Go to a marsh and fill a bucket with the dark muck on the bottom with some of the water. Apply this colony of nitrogen fixing bacteria to the compost around the plant to restore the soil nitrogen cycle.

LOL! you can see his sleep cycle. He apparently quits posting around 3am and begins again around 11am. That explains a lot. He either has the sleeping pattern of a self absorbed teenaged brat, or he works an honest day and doesn't sleep at all.

The other issue is the assumption that the people running government are between the mean and one sigma to the right when in my experience, government tend to be both run by, and directed to, the area between 1 and 2 sigma to the left. :)

Average is not a range; it is the center of a statistical population. Geniuses and their counterparts are one standard deviation from this. The author makes the claim that it takes a person of above average intelligence to run a government, and I think we can all agree that this is not the case.

ENSHITTIFICATION

noun Colloquial the gradual deterioration of a service or product brought about by a reduction in the quality of service provided, especially of an online platform, and as a consequence of profit-seeking.

A very basic Anglo-Saxon term wrapped in affixes which elevate it to being almost formal; almost respectable. This word captures what many of us feel is happening to the world and to so many aspects of our lives at the moment.

The Macquarie Dictionary was first published in print in 1981 and has been online since 2003. Its reputation has gone from strength to strength and it is now nationally and internationally regarded as the standard reference on Australian English.

Their word of the year for 2024 is: ENSHITTIFICATION

Free speech is a thing, but there are things which are not covered. You don't yell fire in a crowded movie theater, and you don't make a scene in an airport or plane.

Let re-frame this to illustrate why this sort of protest is stupid:

I dislike that my neighbor is an abusive husband who beats his wife. I will throw rocks through the window of a random business on main street to get this situation fixed.

That would get me arrested, rightly so, and solve nothing.

It is amazing how some think that ambient temp and sea level rise are the only indicators of climate change, and a snowball can be compelling evidence to the contrary.

Among several other effects, the extra thermal energy creates higher temp differentials, which in turn fuel the engines of storms.

I have been trying to figure out why Bluesky feels somewhat familiar. Its not the microblogging part, but something about the community. Then it hit me.

The last time a social media platform let you curate your own groups and circles without an algorithm forcing other crap was G+ back in the day.

Saying my goodbyes on Twitter and I made some realizations... Wow.

I was on there for 11 years, and I realized that these weren't my people, and so never really engaged. The signal to noise ratio went to hell, and it became a dark place.

Here's to a new journey!

Today would have been Carl Sagan's 90th birthday. How fitting that he predicted the current state of our country almost 30 years ago. Worth reading. Happy Birthday, Carl. We miss you. πŸ’™

Yep, nor if we can get Boebert as Secretary of Education, we'll be well on our way to Idiocracy. In all seriousness, I'm trying to see the plan or at least who benefits.
