In what perhaps might be the least popular cause to take up, we should be deeply concerned that two deeply evil men have been killed in prison.
Naturally, there will be few tears shed, and frankly the world would have been a much better place had neither man existed. /1

Still reckon Tottenham will somehow stay up. It's like when the prospect of Everton going down was dangled tantalisingly in front of us for a couple of years, but then they never actually got relegated.

GREG DAVIES: got it, nice easy task. Invade Russia by land, fastest wins. Nobody tried to do it in winter I assume, you'd have to be mad!
ALEX HORNE: funny you should say that Greg, first up we have Charles XII, Adolf *and* Napoleon

General Melchett from Blackadder Goes Forth, in front of the maps at his headquarters.
"That is what is so brilliant about it! Doing precisely what we've done 18 times before is exactly the last thing they'll expect us to do this time."

Also, and as unpopular as it may be to say this about Ian Huntley, all prisoners should be safe. If people in prison are being attacked, that feels like a big problem with the prison system as a whole.

This afternoon's Bluesky discourse is going to be dominated by Americans trying to parse British by-elections.

Interesting thread, particularly the bit on the damage done to Labour's chances by Andrew Gwynne's behaviour.
Often easy to forget how very specific, local issues โ in this case one person's actions โ can be a factor in by-elections.

I appreciate the idea behind this, but it's also making me wish I could somehow mute photos โ I really don't need to see Allister Heath's face as often as I'm seeing it right now.

So close... and yet realistically they never will, will they? They've all gone in so hard on this, to reverse-ferret now would be too embarrassing.

It would be a real shame if she's left here for good. She hasn't posted on Twitter for a while, so maybe she's just taking a social media break?

The video's rubbish, but I love the song so much โ it's my favourite song by one of my favourite bands.

It's interesting to watch in its own way, but it feels slightly odd that right now BBC2 is broadcasting an episode of Top Gear that was first shown almost exactly 20 years ago.

My instinctive thought is that it's insane because if you asked someone e.g. "What letter does Ian McEwan's surname start with?" they'd say M, right? Unless you have loads of authors whose names begin with Mc/Mac and you think it would help to keep them separate.
