Excited to share that I've recently started my tenure as a member of the IOC @unesco.org Global Ocean Oxygen Network (#GO2NE) Expert Working Group!
I am honored to be a part of this group and look forward to all our work on the Global Ocean Oxygen Decade (GOOD) π .

My REU in 2011 helped me understand I had a path in research. Since then, Iβve had the privilege of mentoring several REUβs, many of whom have gone onto grad school or scientific careers. The gutting of these programs will have a devastating impact for many years.

For my first post- a new paper showing how tiny blips of nightly low oxygen - just 6 hours at a time- may have the potential to shape coral reef communities, leading to less diverse, lawn-like states!

Sorry if this has already been done but Iβm starting to compile some starter packs for coral folks on hereβ¦ part one is linked below, but if you want to be added to part two, post here!!! (And please amplify)

Many of the (great) starter packs focus on faculty in different fields. In an effort to help #EarlyCareerResearchers in #marine biology, ecology, evolution, & related fields (re-)connect, here is a list of ECRs. Please give them a follow (and reply to be added or suggest people). go.bsky.app/KhWvT4u

How is massive #coral growth impacted by highly variable dissolved oxygen, pH, and temperature gradients across a #seagrass bed? πͺΈπ‘οΈπ«§
Read our new publication out today in PLOS ONE to find out how these highly variable environments can serve as natural laboratories!

Looking forward to sharing the preliminary results from the past year of my postdoc with the Smithsonian Marine Station at #OSM24!
Stop by Ocean Biology and Biogeochemistry poster 788 tomorrow from 4-6pm to learn more about multi-stressor impacts of deoxygenation on Caribbean corals.
I am *thrilled* to finally announce that our department is hiring an Evolutionary Biologist. We are esp looking genetic/genomic expertise, and those who can help us build a more equitable biology community at UCSB. Please apply by Jan 15! recruit.ap.ucsb.edu/JPF02635 #unicornjob
π𧬠Research technician opportunity in marine ecology! π¦ π¬
Opening for a research technician in my lab @thecaseylab.bsky.social
Full advertisement: caseylab.weebly.com/join.html
Apply by December 1st. Start date in Jan/Feb 2024.
Email me with any questions!
Please spread the word about 3 tenure track, hard-money microbiome faculty positions. These are well-resourced, come with their own grants, few teaching requirements (but lots of opportunities), potential footprint in our marine lab.

Super fun collaboration from my time in the Florida Keys as a postdoc at Mote! We studied reef macroalgae responses (...or lack of!) to ocean acidification. Amazing collaborators + interesting results...what more can you ask for?
I'm looking to hire a postdoc in coral genomics - $66k/yr plus benefits - follow link for more info - review of apps begins Nov 10 usccareers.usc.edu/job/los-ange...
