He’s still miffed from his deployment days that he couldn’t just slaughter civilians with impunity and had to follow those pesky rules of engagement. He obviously gets off on killing enemies and non-combatants alike.

I like this version the best, as well. I do pick up on some anger. His voice is quite something to be able to sing this version in this manner. It is not an easy song to sing and he’s really showcasing his technique. Considering his usual genre, it’s pleasantly surprising and effective.
