Pluralist: 19 Feb 2020 – Pluralistic: Daily links from Cory Doctorow
There are lots of intersections that are dangerous for cyclists, but what made Ipsley Cross so lethal was a kind of eldritch geometry that let cyclist and driver see each other a *long* time before the collision, while providing the illusion that they were *not* going to collide, until they did.

It's worth saying that applying 30km/h on these roads is radical compared to what even the last Irish Govt was planning -- the guildlines issued made it clear it was not a blanket limit as claimed by some reports etc: bsky.app/profile/moda...

Wrote about how the incredibly thin-skinned leadership of Palantir sued a small Swiss publication for publishing a deeply researched article that was only mildly embarrassing for the company (about why the Swiss gov't keeps ghosting them).

Ireland is one of the best countries in Europe in ensuring no one is left behind. A new index tracks progress on income & gender inequality, poverty, and access to services. Ireland ranks 7th of 35 European countries. There is always more to be done, but this is a good place to be. 🇮🇪

Defending rejection of RSA reform, Minister O’Brien uses abandoned 30km/h default speed limit as example of progress
Defending the rejection of suggested reforms of the Road Safety Authority (RSA) this morning, the Minister for Transport, Darragh O'Brien, used the now-abandoned 30km/h default speed limit approach as an example of progress on road safety. At the Oireachtas' Joint Committee on Transport, he also cited the improved driver test time as an example of progress within the RSA, but consultants paid for by the Department of Transport highlighted that testing was among a "range of complex nationwide customer services" that were a distraction from the authority's claimed main function of reducing deaths and injuries.

Senator Alice Mary Higgins asked the CnaM Chairman why his organisation didn’t take action under the Irish Online Safety Code against Grok generating CSAM.
Apparently, it didn’t appear to them to be a breach of the code.
What , then, is it good for?
