True, but if you do it often? You're paying $10-15 to watch one show one time, unless you continually make throwaway emails to sign up for free trials, but most companies require you to put payment info in now. And if you have, say, ND children who depend on certain TV for routine? SOL--pay up.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. People will always go for the better value/cheaper option because times are hard, and have been hard, for decades. And the cycle continues.
Sorry, I don't have a solution. I'm just sad.

Now, if you want to watch all the shows/movies you could watch on one or two platforms 10 years ago, you have to have 5-10 different subscriptions. What does that amount to?
Not much different than a cable bill.
... with a high cable bill for 20 minutes of show every half-hour. My own cable bill was almost $300.
And eeeeverybody said, "This is just like Amazon; they're going to price cable out of business and then jack up the price."
Cable didn't go under, it migrated.
But I've been thinking about the same situation with streaming services. When I first got Netflix, it was $8/month (no ads, ever). Now it's $20 WITH ads. Disney+ was $10 then. Now it's over $30 for the ad-free version.
When the streaming companies popped up, it was when everyone was fed up ...
Well, they were right. Our small stores went under almost overnight. Indie authors have no choice now: either sell through Amazon, or make a tenth or less of what you could be making. Reach a smaller audience. Languish.
Hindsight is 20/20, of course.
At that time, there was a bit of a hubub with the Grown Folks about "mom and pop stores" and "buying local." They said, "I know the prices are low, but if we spend all our money on the big stores, the small ones will go out of business. Then they'll turn around and jack up the price bc they can!"
You know, I'm not exactly a spring chicken, but I'm not a baby either.
I remember when Amazon only sold books, and when they expanded into other things (mostly electronics). Around the same time our small town got a "Wal-Mart Super Center," which sold groceries as well as its usual fare.

I want to read this so much 🥺
This biggest mood that ever mooded 😂
One of the cruelest tricks society played on creative people was planting the idea that being proud of your work is somehow unseemly and egotistical.
You made a thing! You like it! You SHOULD be proud of it. Brag all you want!

Okay, no worries! It’s really chill, like I said like 90% of the members are also socially anxious, there’s not a ton of just random chatter but it’s not all business either. Only one “admin” and she said you’re welcome to come and go or stay, whatever floats your boat. 😊
And yes, no minors. 😂
I’m in a server of ~30 people, all supportive and only pressure upon request 😆 It’s primarily romance/speculative authors, but all genres are welcome. I’d be happy to share the invite, no pressure to even post if you don’t like the vibes. But I understand! A great many of us are socially anxious. 🫂
I think they tried to start a BeNoWriMo (beanowrimo) with a bean as a mascot last year? Year before? I’m not entirely sure, but look into that! Or joining a discord with sprints or getting a critique partner could help. 😊
AI companies going bankrupt and authors getting paid, this is the future I want

I’m honestly so excited for the liberal south to resist, I’ve been waiting for it!
Fan(g)tasy has me rolling 😂 so clever!
I’ve had some really harsh writer’s block the past month or so. Whether it’s the daily stress of life, parenting woes, mental health, or some angry combination, I can’t write a word. 🥺

Criminally under-appreciated 😩🫶🏻
Though I do consider myself to be a marginalized author because I am a member of the 🌈 authors club, I won’t be participating in #dvpit this year. So far, all of my works have been straight-passing. So, I’ll use tomorrow to boost my fellow diverse authors instead! 🫶🏻
