The school thing… luckily since the pandemic they have adopted a lottery system. But for years it was first come first serve. I think they liked the media attention. But it was very problematic on many levels.
Those jeans were on hyper sale and I would never be able to afford them on any other day. Like $30 - $100 instead of $100 - $400. There were tickets and lines ups and group change rooms. It was complete madness.

In my teens, my friend & I used to drive 45 min to this wild Jeans sale at 3 am on Boxing Day.
My husband & I camped outside for 3 days one February (-20C, freezing rain) to get our kid into a school 🥶
And there were several concert wrist bands in the 90s! Lol

Yes, exactly. It’s hyper amplifying, but it’s missing the mark on who the content is for. Its like a false positive. It’s leveraging the words/images that are trending to go viral for the sake of it. Instead of putting the content in front of the people who could get value. It’s a waste of time IMO.
The problem with Threads is Meta tried to make the platform too accessible. What was “good” about Twitter originally is that you had to be creative with just a few words. It had a vibe. Threads is like a mish mash of FB/IG/Tw. Trying to be everything to everyone. And it misses the mark.
This reminds me of the debate of gating/not gating - where Bluesky is like ungated content. You attract people who want to connect, instead of collecting a pile of emails of folks who just wanted to read the thing. But who knows how long it will last.
