Was given the keys to a room that was already occupied. Ooh I nearly forgot about the nightly fire alarms at Edinburgh & untrained staff. Never again.

I stopped staying there as a lone female after they had firemen, unaccompanied by staff , knocking on my door at 2am. Apparently the boiler on the roof had burst and was spilling down the outside. The least I would have expected was for them to have been accompanied. Then my colleage

2026 brings an untimely teenage death to my world & the archivist in me wonders how we can similarly gather together the lost voices & images of that life. How can I help their mother save the photos, Whatβs apps, videos & TikTok dances? A hard drive seems insufficient for such a memorial.
Last year I surveyed an archive which included these beautiful bound books of letters from a Victorian teenager to her parents & family. After her death aged 14, her mother gathered them together as a memorial. She would do the same when her son died aged 18, seeking to keep their voices alive.
