Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Fanfare For The Common Man (Live at Olympic Stadium, Montreal, 1977)
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Fanfare For The Common Man (Live at Olympic Stadium, Montreal, 1977) YouTube video by Emerson, Lake and Palmer

vocal/bass/percussion trio at Sun & Dust on Canyon Road for the MINI ART SHOW tonight. www.sunanddust.gallery/show/sun-dus... The art is miniature, the band is acoustic-no-electricity and the weather is chilly. It's going to be like a tiny version of the ELP video www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2zu...

If you're in Santa Fe, come by Sun & Dust gallery on Canyon Road tomorrow at 5PM. My scaled-down all-acoustic no-electricity vocal/bass/percussion trio is playing a set for the opening of the "Mini Art Show" an exhibition of "scaled-down artwork". www.sunanddust.gallery Good times I promise.

The music and the art are great for kids if you happen to have some. Think dollhouses and tiny pots and little figures and pictures. Many pieces come with magnifying glasses and such. I went last year's show and it's just wonderful to see, I'm so looking forward to being a part of it.

there's an old joke that mandolin players spend half their time tuning and the other half playing out of tune.

This is a good thread. This is also why I enjoy my upright bass and my fretless electric bass. And why I like playing in bands that don't have guitars or pianos when I can find one.

80s Apocalypse - YouTube

I stayed up too late collating, adding a few more, and making a playlist.

I weighted it toward the upbeat danceable end of the spectrum because that's how we dealt with our despair in the 80s: aniline dye, Aquanet, synthesizers, and too much rouge.

First Picacho Peak hike of the season. It's 4 miles round trip out and back but it climbs 1000 feet in 2 miles at 7000+ feet elevation so it'll getcha.

Well except that it's highly illegal and if you publish that you'll have Hal Leonard and the estates of a few dozen artists sending you cease&desist orders if not suing you outright.

It really seems like software should exist for a modern version of this.

I xeroxed the OG Real Book myself in a ATL Kinko's in the middle of the night in the early 80s. I bought an OG bass clef Real Book under the counter at Clark Music a little while after that. I know where the first one is but I'll never get it back. I still own the bass clef one. It is tattered.

I wonder if anyone has created an illegal samizdat *software* 'Real Book' but with modern tech that would allow for e.g. transposing written melodies into arbitrary keys. Because the commercial web software for that is appallingly bad. Why? Oh no reason really. Just asking the question y'know...

Neil Sedaka, β€œBreaking Up Is Hard to Do” and β€œLaughter in the Rain” Singer-Songwriter, Dies at 86 The Brooklynite's esteemed body of work also includes "Calendar Girl," "Oh! Carol," "Love Will Keep Us Together," "Where the Boys Are," "Bad Blood" and "Solitaire."

Neil Sedaka was so talented, and he inspired me to follow my dream of being a songwriter.

With love and gratitude and condolences to his family.

16 years ago I wrote a couple dozen lines of Ruby to drive Selenium to something like this. I won an iPad from SauceLabs in little contest with it. My script was more sophisticated. (Unfortunately the Sauce blog post about it is lost to bitrot)

How Did Hendrix Turn His Guitar Into a Wave Synthesizer? How did Jimi Hendrix turn his guitar into a wave synthesizer? Dive into the engineering behind his iconic sound.

This is a good short read "Jimi Hendrix Was A Systems Engineer" in the currentr IEEE Spectrum. spectrum.ieee.org/jimi-hendrix... We all kinda knew that but it's fun to see all the analog electronics/acoustics laid out.

And if I'm not mistaken, this coincides with the creation of the specific high-quality pet food market. Before the mass adoption of the automobile, cats and dogs generally ate scraps, or hunted for their food.

The founders of beehiiv were 30u30. They're good people and it's a good company. I work there and I'm twice their age and I seen some shit and I wouldn't stick around if it were shady.

Problem is you can't mandate that anyone *maintain* open source. A better requirement (from US Military Intelligence ackshully) is that software be *auditable*. You *can* mandate the future of free-as-in-beer IP.
