Now think about an EV instead. The sun produces energy by fusing hydrogen atoms into helium. It travels 93 million miles in about eight minutes and 20 seconds (seven seconds more when our orbit takes us furthest away). Those photons then strike the silicon atoms in a photovoltaic panel, knocking loose electrons that produce a stream of direct current electricity; an inverter, now usually contained in the panel, converts that to AC power, which can be pumped directly into the battery of an EV where the motor uses electromagnetism to create a rotating magnetic field in a stator, which spins the inner rotor to propel the car. There are about 20 moving parts in the engine, and it is 80 to 90 percent efficient. There is no exhaust and almost no noise. That’s it. And if you poured those electrons into an e-bike instead of an EV, it’s even better: a penny’s worth of power is good for three miles or so. The same principles apply to electric buses, electric ferries, and so on.

Count me among those who are disgusted by the behavior of the USA #MensHockey team following their gold medal win. I hope #NHLCommissioner #GaryBettman who I know to be a good humanitarian speaks out about how disgusting & harmful was the mens team’s post-win misogynistic & divisive behavior #Hockey
2025 data quietly released by EPA shows harmful increases in dangerous air pollution attributable to Trump, personally, with 6 TX power plants that Trump exempted from stronger safeguards, for example, experiencing an astonishing 48% increase in sulfur-dioxide emissions collectively in 2025. 1/
On Feb. 12, the Trump administration scrapped the endangerment finding, the scientific principle that underpins the government’s ability to regulate greenhouse gases and to combat climate change.
@harvardcchange.bsky.social director Mary Rice discusses the potential health impacts of this decision.
The presumed upcoming El Nino will help cement and quantify global warming acceleration, showing that 2C global warming is likely to be reached in the 2030s, not at midcentury.
