“It’s a drain on society at every single level,” he told me the following April. “It affects people in their 40s, the most productive years of your life. The economic toll, the psychological toll—every aspect of society it’s going to touch.”
They had enough room in the budget to get rid of bridge and highway tolls but can’t afford bus passes for kids?

On the question of royal vices, Macduff was more concerned about Malcolm taking the land and jewels and houses of nobles than their wives and daughters and matrons and maids.
I've been sending anti-austerity letters recently because we've known for decades that investment in social programs and supports improve social cohesion, which creates resilient societies. 1/4
Wow.
For my first story in @breachmedia.ca, I wanted to know what Canada was doing about a scathing UN disability report that criticized the disability benefit and the expansion of assisted suicide.
I'll be writing a longer thread soon.

(But clean air in schools? Sorry, kids.)
We found that while close contact contributed to elevated risk (rate ratio 1.16 per doubling daily time, 95%-CI 1.01–1.33), time spent in shared classrooms and poor air quality had larger effects (RR 3.17, 95%-CI 1.96–5.17 and RR 1.90 95%-CI 1.23–2.94) respectively).

- most who would choose to trust a silent/reassuring "expert" over a random PhD on social media who teaches tennis and leads with 'I hope you die' and closes with 'you need to wake the fuck up'
Of course how you post on social media matters
It *isn't helpful* to blame parents for failed messaging
Hey, another perspective from Nuance here.
There are lots of parents:
- some doing the lonely heavy lifting of advocacy
- most trusting the "experts" they're supposed to trust
- some who wonder and worry and don't have the capacity for lots of different reasons to figure this out on their own
Congrats!
Holy smokes. I advocate too. But I don't blame parents. Governments, PH, health care, schools, unions, media....have all dropped the ball on their responsibility to be informed and inform/advocate for the public, workers, families, patients, students. Parents are expected to trust their authority.
