Calling AI "slop" has been one of the most effective instances of the public rebranding a product and it pisses them off.
Can't believe I still need to submit my tax return to this government.
The artist behind Rainbow Brite, G. G. Santiago, recently died. Her life story is incredible. She survived the dark horrors of WWII at a very young age.
Thank you, G.G. You added such joy to my life!

Dispatches from MN: it's getting really hard, guys. The media has left, the donations are drying up, and ICE is still here kidnapping people. It's hard not to be resentful that other people have the option of setting this aside for.other things.
It is as bad as it sounds, and freedom to read folks have been anticipating this now for years.

Reason #1000000 why we canโt trust a word they say โ this is a cover up in plain sight.
New York Times headline reads "Teddy Roosevelt's Family Urges G.O.P. to Protect Public Lands; In a rare letter to Republican senators, four descendants of the former president oppose mining near a wilderness are in Minnesota."
Our public lands are our shared inheritance, and that includes the Boundary Waters.
Stand with Teddy Rooseveltโs family โ speak out to protect what belongs to all of us.

Question for locals (for a story):
What places (food/drink/shops/museums/etc) would you recommend for out-of-town visitors to spend money this summer?
Specifically, places you love for their day-to-day merits and ALSO for their community support the last several weeks.
There is no drawdown. There is no retreat. ICE is just redistributing their assets to better avoid accountability.
This is all due to the incredible resistance of the people of Minnesota.
Their resilience - and their determination - helped enforce the Constitution in a way that political elites in Congress and the courts did not or could not.
I have never been prouder to be a Minnesotan.
I may have missed a reply or two but this is the gist of what I could gather from replies and qts! (Yes, I was bored, could you tell?). I disregarded "demographic/genre" as an answer because I wanted the graph to be useful to all genres/authors. I figured demographic/genre is a given.
Lovely profile of a fantastic filmmaker, alongside everything else.
One of every thousand American residents has been taken into custody by ICE in the last year.
Kinda Fucked Up that in our lifetimes we've gone from "never share personal info on the internet" to "hand over your identity to the most incompetent corporations imaginable".
this might be a long shot... but do i know anyone based in Japan who has access to the National Diet Library in Japan and could help me access digital scans of a book with contents that are now in the public domain (early 1900s)?

Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams
You can't actually steal ppl's ability and capacity to create art so the next best thing is devaluing the creation of art itself.
ICE was flawed from day one... born out of post-9/11 fear and built on policies that blurred national security with domestic control. Some systems donโt need reform. They need to be abolished.

This morning at the Minnesota State Capitol.
An ice sculpture that reads "PROSECUTE ICE". I'm told the organization behind the sculpture is Common Defense.
