No problem… what you see on the video was fine with a pixicam2…. I’m upgrading the project but the pixy did the job!
That’s giving the magic trick away…. But since it’s more a science experiment than a magic trick, I used a camera with computer vision tracking the lines:)

Animatronics use Arduino to connect to the controllers… sometimes they are joysticks and sometimes they are complex controllers… but it is controller to Arduino, Arduino to wireless, wireless to receiver, receiver to Arduino, Arduino to robotic servos:)
I am learning RasPi… I work with Arduino a lot but I am new to RasPi… I used a raspi5
It is fast because it is a 5 but also because I kept the calculations to a min… it doesn’t know where it is… it just cares that the red dot is as close to the center of the face as possible… I can send you the code

This was my first project… I started documenting when I did the robotic drum… I have full tutorials and GitHub on that… this no one was a figure it out as I went one… because of work I abandoned it temporarily a few times so i don’t have docs, but I can share info…

I tend to loose interest in things once I get them functional. I push myself to finish the project, but I rarely take it to a point where it is market ready…. This one just needs a nice enclosure that can be easily stored in a pelican box and deployed without the need for time consuming calibration…
I tried reaching out to Jean-Michael Jarre once about this… He was the first person to incorporate a laser harp into his show… he is famous for it, but his is not capable of reading up and downs… it just plays a not when the beam is broken…. I never got a reply :D
Maybe a Vegas DJ will try it out!

Made this Arduino based laser harp from scratch. It is midi based and can sense beam breaks as well as length of beam. It can also play both hands simultaneously (polyphonic).

That’s awesome! I was never any good but I did take drum classes as a teen and love rhythmic music… like Afro-Celt sound system… I hope to make more robots that play percussive instruments in the future :)
