This is a gorgeous reflection.
I encourage you to find a quiet, still moment to read it.
We can and should push our leaders to create and follow principles that are more just and effective.
Nuclear weapons endanger all life on Earth, but America’s stance on nuclear weapons in particular endangers Hawai’i and the rest of the Pacific.

My friend wrote a beautiful essay about her cancer diagnosis and how it changed (and didn’t change) her.

Some thoughts on what it means to be thankful and critical.
My friend Caitlin wrote an incredible essay, which is up at @therumpus.net. It’s so strange and moving and smart, I really love it and highly recommend that you (yes you) check it out.

Got a short personal essay out in Hawai'i Pacific Review today! It’s about the wind and loneliness and what it means to belong.

My student wrote a deep-dive into Hawaii’s housing crisis. Give it a read, and if you have a Medium account, clap it up!

11 years ago today I wrote my first article for Sherdog, a statistical analysis of TJ Dillashaw vs. Renan Barao. It was the first time I was paid for writing ($50!)
Sherdog was the first place to give me a shot. I’m forever grateful for the opportunities they gave me. I miss covering MMA.
I interviewed two prominent voices in the Hawaiian community and asked them if settlers can be in alignment with Hawaiian values in spite of historical injustices. Here's what they said.

An important essay, especially for those of us not native to the state that were born and raised in the islands.

I’ll be teaching a global politics class for 11th graders this upcoming school year — does anyone have any reading/viewing recs that explain/contextualize the Israel/Palestine conflict?
The cowards at the New York Times left The Newest Pledge (2012) off their list, but real ones know what’s up.
Most accurate to describe these crews as an amorphous paramilitary group with ties to various federal agencies, tasked with suppressing dissent and causing fear in areas that don’t support the current President

For many years it's been clear that the only way to get elected officials to do better was to tell them to eat shit, go fuck themselves, and stop being whiny pushovers. These people aren't your friends; they work for you, and they had better remember that.

Remembering Jordan Breen:

For Jordan
Jordan Breen is the only high profile person in mma history that nobody badmouths. His brain was shaped like a key to unlock the entirety of what makes combat sports appealing, disgusting, and appealingly disgusting. We didn't lose a good one, we lost the very best of us.
It was so humbling to go on Press Row with him. I’ve never been so nervous to talk about fights. He was stunningly brilliant, and exceedingly generous. What a loss.
Jordan Breen was the first MMA writer who captured my attention. Being a fan of him made me a better fan of the sport. It was a genuine honor to work alongside him at Sherdog. He was one of the best to ever do it, and his voice and presence will be sorely missed. RIP.
I wonder if Penn even **wants** the help that he needs. Personally, it seems to me that he's too far gone.
I just hope he doesn't hurt anyone else.
