Lights, camera, conservation! π¬πΏ
Last week we filmed with the brilliant @zslofficial.bsky.social Learning team on a project focused on teacher training and outdoor education.
It was an great opportunity share HogWatch monitoring techniques and conservation tips.
Stay tuned for more details soonβ¨
Mitcham hedgehog project caught this hedgehog utilizing a hedgehog highway to move between habitats. By creating a small 13Γ13 cm opening in garden fences, you can help maintain habitat connectivity and support local hedgehog populations! βπ¦

We are also delighted to share that @marcusrowcliffe.bsky.social, who has been part of the project since its inception, has taken over from Chris. We are excited to see how the project continues to grow and look forward to what 2026 brings! π¦π
We wanted to take this opportunity to say a massive thank to
@tigerfoodman.bsky.social as he retires from ZSL. Chris founded London HogWatch in 2016, bringing his camera trapping expertise to help Londonβs hedgehogs. Lucky for us he will remain involved in the project. π¦π₯³

Great to see all the different habitats and wildlife across the Common ππ¦
The #NHMP is led by both @ptes-org.bsky.social and @hedgehogsociety.bsky.social
Barnes Common is known to be a habitat for bee wolves, which are solitary wasps that dig burrows in sandy areas. These wasps are also known as bee-killers due to their habit of catching and paralyzing honey bees to provision their nests. The females dig the burrows, sometimes reaching a meter in length with multiple side tunnels, and then hunt bees to store in these chambers for their larvae to feed on.
