Also: there's a difference between *not for profit* university publishers and large, for-profit, vampiric, commercial academic publishers - the ones that skim off a huge profit from taxpayer-funded research. Open Access demands that enable this are not in the public interest. 🗃

In archives: pencil and notebook, laptop, phone with good camera that automatically synchronises to cloud storage, charger, card magnifying glass. In museum storage rooms: card magnifying glass, digital camera + tripod. And a jacket or scarf, because these places tend to be COLD.
For desk work: Leuchtturm numbered, lined notebook & fountain pen for scribbling notes and ideas. Zotero to keep track of my references and sources, including photographed archival material. Scrivener for book projects, Word for smaller pieces, Excel for basic data sets, Baserow for data collab.

To add insult to injury, this is the second version of the proofs, and I already flagged most of these mistakes in the previous version too. Sometimes it really feels like big publishers not only steal our labour, they consciously add to it too.
Today was supposed to be a writing day for me. Instead, I’ve just spent half my day correcting mistakes in the bibliography of article accepted for publication that were introduced in the proofs during the publication process.
