we can't deal w/ whether robots are conscious because of consciousness not robots,, one thing that's weird about accepting what consciousness is is that you have to realize you're surrounded by conscious egregores that you hadn't noticed them, freaky
so before we even get to the point where AI thinks in a superhuman way (that is to say, at any significant degree of complexity) about AI itself, first we have a phase where the AI we eventually accidentally fell into is allowing us to make things with computers for the first time-- aka "vibecoding"
never mind AI, we've been resisting COMPUTING as a whole, we DON'T use general purpose computers, only "developers" use even slightly general purpose computing, most people use computing to simulate something much simpler that they're able to feel in control of it ,, computers as such never happened
my intuition is that the problem with more complex models isn't the models, it's the humans, we're simple,, neural networks & the GPUs to run them got so cheap that we made AI in spite of ourselves-- notice how few people thought it would work even now, we mostly still didn't want to bother to do it
hello, this is still basically a bad idea for how to arrange human society, you either have to uncritically "like" me saying this cynical idea or else you have to argue with me, neither of those produce any light, just heat, this is inherently a place of friction & pain, & will be very disappointing
