Grateful for my colleagues Rep. Marcia Morey, Rep. Julie von Haefen, and Rep. Renee Price, and everyone joining in this work.
Please try and come to the Love Forward events February 11-14. I have no doubt you'll be as inspired as I've been!

Proud and humbled to join Bishop Barber and Repairers of the Breach at the legislature to talk and listen about the future we deserve and how to Love Forward to get there.
Bishop Barber reminded us that we have to bring the positive vision for the future, share it, and invite people to join us.
Our Constitution has an answer for a lawless president: Congress. But it is clear that Republicans in Congress will never even consider holding this administration accountable for its lawlessness. They've broken their oaths. Our Constitution has an answer for a cowardly Congress, too: the voters.
Federal agents cannot be allowed to obstruct state investigators as they pursue any and all appropriate criminal charges. No one is above the law. [2/3]
Renee Nicole Goodβa poet and motherβwas murdered in broad daylight by federal agents. We have the video. Our eyes aren't lying to us, but DHS is. Seeing a murder followed by state-sponsored lies shocks the conscience. [1/3]
Everyone deserves to worship and learn without fear. Todayβs news is a stark, painful reminder how much work we still must do to make that world a reality. [3/3]
It is agonizing to watch fear grow in our communitiesβwhether it is the fear of antisemitism faced by our Jewish neighbors or the fear of campus gun violence faced by our students. [2/3]
Iβm heartbroken by two horrific attacks in the last 24 hours. From a Chanukah celebration in Sydney to a college campus at Brown, we have seen two spaces that should be safe shattered by violence. And while those attacks took place many miles from Raleigh, I also know pain is felt here too. [1/3]
My op-ed this morning on the budget and how reckless GOP tax cuts actually cost us money. Thanks for sharing, @bsexton.bsky.social!
I'll be working hard every day to earn your support, and I'm grateful for the partnership from this incredible district. Here's to 2026! For more info, see philrubin.com. #ncpol #NorthCarolina
We're all feeling the pinch, and it is time for us to retake the legislature so that we can make North Carolina affordable, free, and fair again--a place where everyone has a chance to thrive instead of a place where the scales are tilted toward those who already have the most.
Our state is falling short due to failed policies from the General Assembly that have divested from our state and its people.
Candidate filing announcement! I'm excited to be running to continue serving District 40 in the North Carolina House. During my time in the House, I've fought to be your advocate on everything from common-sense gun reforms, to teacher pay, to free and fair elections. And the work isn't nearly done.
Republicans in Raleigh agree on how to fund Medicaid β and still walked away without getting it done.
Three million North Carolinians depend on it. Doctors are being driven out. Patients are losing care.
Itβs time to come back and get this done.

Republicans are gerrymandering congressional districts again b/c they're TERRIFIED of accountability for their ruinous policies. Whether it's b/c they made NC last in US for healthcare costs or doubling peoples' insurance premiums, the last thing Republicans want is for voters to get a say. #ncpol
I'm really enjoying it, @chriscooperwcu.bsky.social! You do such a great job of making the data and statistics really accessible. Thanks for it!
Thanks for a wonderful discussion! Really enjoyed it.
I posted a video update on Instagram, but it's too large to post on Bluesky, so you can check it out here if you want!

Weβre not back in session until Aug. 26, and the bill sponsors say theyβre open to more feedback. We'll have those conversations, and I'm grateful to all who came to the Judiciary 1 committee last week to advocate, and for everyone who reached out to legislators expressing concerns. More soon! [5/6]
Also, in the new HB 958, they're pushing a new requirement that voters give their full Social Security number to register to vote, despite federal law saying you canβt make someone provide do that to vote. And the bill still bans ranked choice voting without a chance for the public to decide. [4/6]
The bad news: Republicans slipped parts of this bill into the mini-budget that passed last week, including *seven new exempt positions for partisan hires.* [3/6]
Theyβve also lengthened the time you can use an expired driver's license to vote, and they're relaxing the insane ballot-counting deadlines they imposed in December.
But thereβs still plenty to be concerned about. [2/6]
Quick update on HB 958, the bad elections bill weβve been watching closely here in NC.
Thanks to public advocacy, weβve seen improvements. The provision banning election officials from encouraging voting is gone. The number of political hires at the State Board is cut from 25 to 5. [1/6]
3. Spread the word! This bill is bad for all North Carolinians of any political view. Let's build a coalition around free and fair elections in NC.
See my previous posts for more info!
2. Come to the committee meeting if you can. The time isn't specific: it'll be 15 minutes after the full House voting session ends. I expect the full House to begin meeting at 1pm, but not confirmed. And I can't predict when that session will end. Could be short, could run to the late afternoon.
How can you help?
1. Reach out to members on Judiciary 1 and let them know how you feel about the bill. www.ncleg.gov/Committees/C...
HB 958 is a dangerous step backward for NC elections. It bans election officials from encouraging people to vote (really!), and it turns experienced, nonpartisan election staff into partisan political appointees who donβt have to be qualified.
Itβs outrageous and not how we should run elections.
Important update on free and fair elections in NC! HB 958 will be heard in the House Judiciary 1 committee on Wednesday, July 31.
π Whatβs next?
The bill is now in the House Judiciary 1 Committee and may be heard when we return to Raleigh July 29β31. That gives us another shot to push back and demand better.

Stay tunedβmore updates coming soon! [4/4]
π₯ Thanks to Maggie Segal, Iβm also sharing a video of my amendment fight. It's too long for Bluesky to post, but you can find it here: www.instagram.com/p/DL28LyUBdgU/
