Ha, you can have them if you come get them
Lol, not sure I can handle 3 beers on a good day. 2 is usually my limit.
An few upgrades to #SQLPrompt, some features graduating, some new things. Check out the blog: www.red-gate.com/blog/sql-pro...
It's got to be 5:00 in the UK by now? Does that mean I can have a beer? Well, amber ale.
I successfully avoided all meetings today, but somehow got a ton of bricks worth of work dropped on me
You can. I share my GOOG location with mrs way0utwest and my daughter. We track each other and can keep an eye out.
What we need is a predictive tracker that accounts for travel and future direction. You and I are crossing paths, sometimes heading in the same directions, sometimes different.
I need to Apple Tag a Kellyn laptop bag in Chicago so I know when you're coming.
The Book of Redgate: Mistakes
This is kind of a funny page to look at. The next page has more detail. This is the text from the facing page: What we do is very difficult, the current situation is hard to understand ,and the future is uncertain. Mistakes are an inevitable consequence of attempting…
Is it my birthday tomorrow? I have no meetings scheduled
Quite the spread of submissions
Not sure I agree with control, but knowing is good. Disclosure of info sent is important to understanding what is going on.
Be careful of that. It passes out of your database to client tools all the time. For analysis, or bug repros, etc.
That's not necessarily the view I would take. Lots of vendor tooling can take data out, esp limited data in terms of meta data, parameters, etc.
However, learning when to stop, when to do some work yourself, when to let it assist or help you, or review work, is a skill.
and a challenge. 3/3
I find many experts/very skilled pros struggling with the less-than-perfect nature of AI responses to database tasks.
I feel learning to deal with that and learning to use the tool for what it can do is a challenge. It can be a way to create efficiency and effectiveness 2/
Discussing AI with colleagues. How is it going to change the challenges we face as tech professionals?
Even as I discuss this, I find myself waffling around about whether this is good or bad for jobs and tech people. How will it change things?

Make sure you're using a business account. In this case, the data isn't saved/used.
Data is always passed to the LLM hoster. This isn't bad, per se. It depends if the data/session is saved.
Rollback vs. Roll Forward
The Advocates at Redgate Software had an interesting discussion about deployments in databases and how you go forward or back from the point at which you discover a problem. You can watch the episode, but a few things occurred to me while we were having our discussion.…
Flyway Tips: Multiple Projects
One of the nice things about Flyway Desktop is that it helps you manage your database code as a project and see what changes are being built. However, many of our customers end up working with multiple databases, so there is a need for multiple projects. This post…
Editorial Republish: Detecting Issues
It’s the Redgate company wellbeing data, where everyone gets the day off. I’m traveling back from Florida after coaching all weekend, so you get to re-read Detecting Issues.
A Wellbeing Day at Redgate
It’s a day off for Redgate today. This is our annual wellbeing day, where everyone gets the day off. Well, not everyone, but anyone that has to work today gets to take another day off. I missed last year’s day because of travel and commitments, but I managed to take a…
Having a Little Fun at SQL Server Central
When we started the site, I had never met most of the other co-founders (we went from 7 to 3 inside of a few years). A few knew each other, but Brian, Andy, and I had only communicated through emails and phone calls. We ran the company remotely from…
A New Word: on tenderhooks
on tenderhooks – adj. feeling the primal satisfaction of being needed by someone, which makes you feel that much more rooted to the world, even if the roots belong to someone else. I feel this all the time with my wife. She needs me, maybe as much as I need her. She…
Identity Columns Can’t Be Updated: #SQLNewBlogger
I’m not sure I knew identity column values could not be updated. I ran into this while trying to solve a problem recently and had to check the error I was getting. This post shows what happened. Another post for me that is simple and hopefully…
Security gonna matter more in the age of AI:
Man accidentally gains control of 7,000 robot vacuums

People are poor at assessing statistics and risk. No matter what the evidence.
The 2026 Redgate Summit Series
The last few years, Redgate has run a few Redgate Summits in different places. We’ve done one every year in London and added a few other cities along the way. This year, we have 4 scheduled (so far). The schedule is listed here, and I’d love to meet some of you at…
