On a trip into the city for coffee with a friend, I find it amusing that it cost me 5 times as much for a bottle of water, compared to the cost of my public transport ๐

So I've been off most social media for quite a while, apart from the occasional LinkedIn musings over coffee. What's going on, who's on Bluesky, and should I post thoughts here ๐ค
In today's episode of "surely generative AI could do better" is this massively lame #scam. It offends me, I find it offending, I am offended by it

If I'm on an airplane with wifi accessing cloud services, shouldn't the latency be better because I'm closer to the clouds?

Change is good. Change for the sake of change is stupid. I'm hearing bad things about the new Slack UI, and I've had to change settings to avoid having to execute multiple mouse clicks for things that used to only take one. But having -1 (negative one) notifciations really takes the cake!
while we're at it, when can cyber sec professionals start billing these marketing companies for our time, for answering the same questions over and over?
why do marketing companies still do things like allowing management reports to be distributed by a link without auth? It might not be payment info but it's still personal info in those reports. Have we learnt nothing from Optus et al?
I feel that Zoom vs Teams is a bit like Beta vs VHS back in the 1980s. One was technically superior, but the other had a much better marketing force behind it, and we all know what happened next.
Clare O'Neil is such a ray of sunshine in an otherwise bleak and dreary cyber sec world. She said "By 2030, we envision a world where threat intel can be exchanged between gov and business at real-time machine speed and then threats blocked before they cause any harm to the AU population". Bless

A friend just reminded me of a search result Google threw at us a few years back when we searched for something directly relating to our place of work at the time. Cyber, of course. But Google threw us "faster lizards sire more offspring". THIS IS WHY SEO AND MARKETING COMPANIES ARE A SCAM, PEOPLE

Best? Worst? response to an audience heckler at a conference: "your question is from a completely different place to what I'm talking about here"
#DigitalTransformation: taking the "people" out of an already flawed "process" and then really getting in there with "technology" to completely screw it over

incompetent, apathetic bureacrats are everywhere and affect the good intentions of so many intelligent people. Discuss:

Some days I am convinced that #cybersecurity is nothing more than carefully balanced politics
not normally a fan of NAB after several bad experiences with their confusing lending business, but this is outstanding and should be rewarded: https://news.nab.com.au/news/nab-removes-links-in-text-messages/
I wonder how much better off the world would be if all delivery truck drivers SWITCHED OFF THEIR ENGINES while delivering things...
I've been wondering how to make GRC "sexy". A lot of newer cyber industry hopefuls seem to focus way to much on pentesting. I reckon intern programs are the way to fix this!
Thanks @empressbat.bsky.social! I've never been such an early adopter on a social platform - but in here I was able to use my name as a handle, since no one had taken it!!
New challenge in #cybersecurity - am I mansplaining too much or not enough?
