Our findings show how digital platforms are reshaping political communication in India, and that subnational comparison is essential to understanding these dynamics. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
Main findings:
Β· Incumbents donβt always shy away from attack ads.
Β· Personalization effects vary significantly across states.
Β· Issue-based ads are less likely to go negative, but context matters.
Happy to share my co-authored piece with Tan Khai Ee, on one of the first empirical studies of Facebook ads in India.
We examine how incumbency, personalization & issue focus shape campaign tone in subnational elections: Bihar (2020), West Bengal (2021) & UP (2022).

News about out-party use of deepfakes didn't increase affective polarization
AI approval β lower polarization
Impact depends on context β fears may be overstated. @ozankuru.bsky.social

Elections create winners & losers among citizens. But how do we encourage losers to cooperate with new leaders or rally cooperation between winners and losers after a bitterly fought election? This is vital for democracy, especially in polarizing times.
