Edgar Allan Poe and Edvard Munch were kindred spirits across art formsβ€”haunted by grief, illness, and anxiety.

Misunderstood in their time, they poured their darkness into beauty. Today, they’re revered. The world caught up, but they never got to see it.

Renoir’s 'At the Theatre' (1876) captures Parisian elegance and social intrigue.

A woman in a luxurious black gown, holding opera glasses, sits beside a shadowed manβ€”highlighting 19th-century theatre as a stage for both performance and status.

Norwegian painter Edvard Munch was born 161 years ago today.

Munch spent almost all of his life followed by illness and death. He suffered serious and recurring mental health problems. The presence of all of these themes in his works is almost a constant.
