my self-esteem still hasn't recovered
i was writing a few hours ago when firefox deployed a never-before-seen bug and briefly played a half-second of audio from a youtube tab i wasn't using anymore. several hours of concentrated silence suddenly punctured by Fwiffo from Star Control II yelling "EMBARRASSING!" in his stupid voice
did a blog post about some electronic old men i have met
www.joewintergreen.com/electronic-o...
I have had basically no time for personal art; but after watching the original Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy series with Alec Guinness, I was inspired to make some posters as a gift for a family member who is a big fan
and then the one thing she has is a gun, the description of which explicitly clarifies that it wasn't issued and she bought it with her own money. the fbi has fallen on hard times
it's so fucking funny that i almost can't believe it isn't part of some intentional joke. sending a data analyst to a crime scene with: no uniform, no partner, no obvious way to keep in touch with anybody, no equipment to like... collect data? to analyze??
the whole setup reminds me of Crow Country, where you're one of those really fake-seeming videogame police characters that seems more like a child doing their best impression of a cop. but then it turns out you literally are. it's so common that you don't even parse it as intentional. case in point!
i love the bit where a cop is like "hey you can't be here" in response to her approaching a crime scene, to which she replies "i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i'm with the f-f-f-f-f-f-fbi" and shows him something that kinda looks like a badge for a second. i wonder if it's that easy in real life
you can now experience the joys of doing this with grace ashcroft in resident evil 9
some environments
some models from a dormant project called feed the astronaut (2023)
the wife: just tell me who youβve been fucking
the resident evil character she married: Iβll explain later.
not that one! but adjacent
belatedly adding that this is an excerpt from the brilliant Resident Evil book by Philip J Reed (RIP)
block on sight
most of my investment in this stuff is predicated on the image of Resident Evil X coming out in 2030, followed by capcom calling up ward like "okay can you do 11 through 20"
most folks are under the impression that capcom stopped using these after 6, which is *mostly* true, except for the fact that the "resident evil seven" audio was actually present in certain versions of that game. village was the first time they straight-up didn't touch it. title growl scholar
a fucked up fact about resident evil: every single "title growl" was recorded during one session in 1995. they have a thirty year old recording of Ward E. Sexton yelling "RESIDENT EVIL... NINE!" that will almost certainly not be used in the actual resident evil nine. we persist in a doomed world
it was critical to make sure that "THE BRADLEY GANG'S LOCOMOTIVE ROBBERY" be clearly and obviously the title of the movie with the disembodied mouth telling the guy to keep walking through the woods. in my old notes i was worried people would think the reels just got swapped which is way less funny
an old idea from feed the astronaut: gradually appearing posters with cowboy shenanigans for a fake movie called THE BRADLEY GANG'S LOCOMOTIVE ROBBERY. you would eventually get to watch a snippet only to discover that itβs just a really upsetting story about a man trapped in an ever-expanding forest
cool shit goin' on
the pale gets all the credit for being the biggest "where the fuck am i" moment in the game, but there are tons of random incidental details about the setting that can really catch you off balance. finding out that radio transmissions are their equivalent to the internet is a great one
fun disco elysium things: this casual encyclopedia comment revealing the existence of a summit twice the height of mount everest
haven't launched this in a few years and fuck off lol

We are at an airport restaurant. A robot just drove up to us with our food, said, "Hi! Here I am!" and then drove away with our food.
