I had to sneak in the back door of the Cocodrie to play a gig there because I was 19 at the time. Fun memories of the music scene back then in SF!

I looked through ALL crew rosters post shuttle program & I can say with about 95% confidence that YES this is the FIRST time two women have been in control of a space vehicle in a crewedΒ environment.

So let's celebrate Cmdr. Anne McClain & Pilot Nichole Ayers!
Working hard this year. It's good to work hard. What else is there to do? Nothing wrong with staying busy. Sometimes wonder if it's going to last forever -- of course nothing lasts forever. You hear it all your life: for example, the first time you lose something important. Not you personally hears it. Everybody hears it. In Minnesota, today, well-rested, you're on, and it's beautiful; it will be pretty humid here this time next month but nobody here is thinking about that now. In a way, that's how all this works -- a sunny day somewhere, enough people to form a sort of collective presence, no one worried about the future for now, because of now. A thought occcurs to you then, right there in St Paul, before the crowd: you've been doing this for thirty-one years. The music is so loud, but you have this thought without judgement, without weight. With neither wonder nor dread. Just so. Bobbing on the water. Thirty-one years and maybe next year thirty-two.

Growing up, Ash Wednesday was the only Catholic holiday I could get behind because it's the only one that keeps it real: You are dust, and always will be.
I have warned about the rightwing attack on empathy. It is as dangerous as any attack on democracy. It is an attack on our humanity. Once you turn off empathy you can do anything.

old Soviet joke for our times:
Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesnβt buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what heβs up to.
Guy says: βlooking for an obituary.β
Vendor says βthose are towards the back of the paper, comrade.β
Guy says: βnot the one Iβm looking for.β

American Analog Set tonight in SF was sublime, heavy on tracks from Fireworks and Know By Heart, Ben Gibbard joined for Choir Vandals & they closed with We're Computerizing... Slowcore nostalgia at it's finest.

Musk's whole deal is to pretend that no one knew how government bureaucracy worked before, like it was this big mystery box, and it's exactly that combo of stupidity and arrogance that pervades silicon valley and leads to them reinventing a city bus and thinking they're Isaac Newton
drugs have taken too many beloved celebrities from us over the years but drugs also have a rare chance right now to radically rehabilitate their image
