Trump argues that the exhibit's statement, below, is unscientific. He's wrong. As a biology professor and population geneticist, I agree with every word of it.
So believe me when I say, race is a social construct and changes with the society. And you know this too, bc no one considers the Irish a different race anymore.
It’s not a coincidence that the great men doing the first anthro research, were rich, white men using science to reinforce the social hierarchy through biology. Did they think of it like this? No! They took this worldview for granted bc it was part of their culture. But culture changes.
As an anthropologist, the foundations of my field are in scientific racism. We were the first skull measurers, trying to show how white people’s brains were bigger and therefore more intelligent.
The idea that race wasn’t centered in museums/zoos previously is laughable, living African people were put on display in zoos to show how primitive they were and white skulls were displayed as the pinnacle of evolution. But of course, this new EO is about trying to return to those before times.
